Job Description

About the role:

Product Design at Uber is about more than just making things look good—it's about architecting how people and things move in the physical world. As a Lead Product Designer, you will turn massive complexity into clarity at speed, navigate competing priorities, and lead through influence, not control. This is a high-impact environment where you will solve what is hard to shape the future of movement.

This role is on our Earner design team, building the platform Earners rely on to plan and move through their day. You'll shape how millions of Drivers and Couriers experience Uber across surfaces and form factors, from tablet and foldable phone design to the earner assistant, where AI and voice help people navigate their day hands-free. You'll also contribute to the universal systems every earner interaction depends on, like how the app handles loading and latency. You'll work closely with engineers, data scientists, product managers, and some of the best designers and researchers in the field, in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.

This is a 0-to-1 role. You'll make big decisions without perfect information and own the outcomes, whether that means defining how an Earner interacts with a foldable device or how they speak to their assistant to plan out their day. You'll navigate high-stakes ambiguity, balance near-term execution with long-term vision, and advocate for the user in a fast-moving, technical space. If you think critically and thrive on solving problems with real-world impact at a global scale, this is where you'll grow.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead human-centered experience design for high-impact domains, defining new interaction patterns and service models where none exist today, including for voice-first experiences.
  • Own design problems end-to-end, from early-stage research and conceptual wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes and final production-ready assets.
  • Design conversational and voice interactions for the earner assistant, helping Earners plan and move through their day hands-free.
  • Partner as a key thought leader with Product, Engineering, and Operations to define requirements and shape the strategic roadmap, not just translate them into mocks.
  • Design across digital and physical touchpoints, translating complex logistical and technical systems into clear, intuitive flows for mobile, tablet, foldable, and voice interfaces.
  • Maintain and evolve Uber's design language by contributing to shared systems and foundational patterns, including universal systems like loading and latency, that ensure consistency across global platforms.
  • Prototype rapidly to test hypotheses and validate ideas early, using data and user research to iterate and raise the bar for quality and trustworthiness.

Time Spent in the Day:

  • 40% Crafting UI/UX designs, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma or with AI.
  • 25% Collaborating cross-functionally to define requirements and align on product strategy.
  • 15% Partnering with UXR and Data Science to validate designs and analyze user feedback.
  • 10% Mentoring other designers and contributing to shared design systems and patterns.
  • 10% Presenting work to stakeholders and advocating for design-led solutions

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of professional product design experience, with a track record of shipping successful digital products for mobile and web.
  • A portfolio showcasing high-quality design work, strong systems thinking, and a deep understanding of user-centered design principles.
  • Proficiency with Figma and a range of prototyping tools to bring complex ideas to life.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and lead design direction in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience designing for multiple form factors and input methods, such as mobile, tablet, foldable devices, or voice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing AI-powered or LLM-driven product experiences, including how to handle uncertainty, errors, and trust in AI-generated content.
  • Experience designing conversational or voice user interfaces (VUI), including how to structure a natural back-and-forth voice interaction.
  • Experience in frontier or complex domains such as Autonomous Systems, AdTech, Fintech, or Enterprise/Operational tools.
  • Experience designing across physical and digital touchpoints, including geospatial or location-aware systems.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with user researchers and data scientists to drive experimentation and A/B testing.
  • Advanced degree in HCI, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Experience building and implementing components within a global, scalable design system.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
