Department Summary

The UCLA Agile Visual Analytics Lab (AVAL) empowers national, state, and local stakeholders to use data to make more timely and sound decisions impacting children, families, communities, and the workforces that serve them. We do this through 1) putting vital information into the hands of stakeholders in the form of data visualizations that efficiently and effectively meet their diverse and dynamic information needs, 2) implementing utilization-focused and developmental evaluation of programs and policies of mission-driven organizations and systems, and 3) building the capacity of systems and organizations to grow, use, and sustain data ecosystems. In these ways we work with our partners in different capacities, depending on their specific needs, ranging from leading full-scale evaluations to data collection, data management and processing, and data visualization. Position Summary

The Research Associate position with the UCLA Agile Visual Analytics Lab (AVAL) is an exciting opportunity for an applied researcher to contribute to the lab’s mission by supporting complex, multifaceted evaluation and research projects through data collection, data management, analysis, and the development and dissemination of reporting products. The position is designed for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative research environment and is interested in strengthening and applying their experience across the research and evaluation lifecycle. The position is particularly well suited for someone who enjoys combining applied research methods, technology, collaboration, and effective communication to help turn data into useful and actionable information. The ideal candidate is a highly organized and intellectually curious research professional with strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of utilization-focused evaluation, participatory research, human services systems, and visual design principles for communicating data in a clear, accurate, engaging, and equity-aware manner will be especially valuable.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
