Job Description

Technical Sales Specialist – Wind Software and Data Solutions

UL Solutions is seeking a Technical Sales Specialist to drive sales in North America for our wind software and data portfolio, including Windnavigator, Windographer, Openwind, and the Renewable Asset Monitoring Platform (RAMP) and our wind resource data and maps. This is a results-oriented software sales role that combines wind energy expertise, consultative selling, and disciplined pipeline execution. The ideal candidate can translate complex concepts in wind resource assessment, measurement, modeling, and wind project design workflows into clear business value, deliver compelling demonstrations, and close high-value B2B opportunities.

This is a full-time role that can be remote or hybrid (3 days in office) at any US UL office.

Responsibilities

As a member of the sales team, you will own and support the sale of UL Solutions wind software and data to wind developers, independent power producers, engineering firms, consultants, utilities, investors, and other participants across the wind energy value chain.

Lead Generation & Business Development

  • Proactively create qualified opportunities through targeted outbound prospecting, account development, partner engagement, networking, and industry events; promptly qualify and advance inbound leads.
  • Deliver tailored demonstrations of Windnavigator, Windographer, Openwind, and RAMP connecting product capabilities to customer workflows from site prospecting and resource assessment through layout design and project development.
  • Position UL Solutions wind maps, wind resource grids, time-series data, analytics, APIs, and modeling tools based on each customer’s technical, commercial, and integration requirements.
  • Lead discovery and technical scoping discussions, coordinate trials or evaluations, and build relationships with economic buyers, technical users, influencers, and procurement stakeholders.

Sales & Revenue Generation

  • Own the full B2B software and data sales cycle, from account targeting, qualification, discovery, and solution alignment through proposal development, negotiation, contracting, and close, with support from subject matter experts.
  • Maintain accurate forecasts, opportunity stages, next steps, and customer activity in the CRM; build sufficient pipeline coverage to consistently meet or exceed quarterly and annual bookings and revenue targets.
  • Expand existing accounts through cross-selling, upselling, and broader adoption of UL Solutions wind software, data subscriptions, and APIs.

Conference & Event Representation

  • Represent UL Solutions and its wind software and data portfolio at conferences, webinars, customer events, and industry workshops.
  • Deliver credible, commercially focused presentations on wind prospecting, resource assessment, measurement data analytics, wind farm design and optimization, and digital workflows.

Marketing Collaboration

  • Partner with marketing to execute demand-generation campaigns, contribute technically credible content, and sharpen messaging by customer segment and wind project stage.
  • Use prospect and customer feedback, win/loss insights, and competitive intelligence to improve positioning, sales enablement, and go-to-market execution.

Internal Collaboration

  • Provide structured customer feedback and market requirements to the product management team.
  • Collaborate with renewable energy advisory, product, customer success, customer support and other UL Solutions teams to develop coordinated account strategies and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Participate in regular sales reviews, forecast calls, product updates, and team meetings.
  • Contribute to wind software and data strategy through insights on customer needs, market trends, competitors, pricing, and adoption barriers.

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong technical understanding of wind energy development, including site prospecting, wind resource assessment, measurement campaigns, energy yield analysis, or wind farm layout and optimization.
  • Minimum 3+ years of relevant B2B software, data, or technical solution sales experience, with a record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
  • University Degree plus three years of directly related experience.
  • Proven ability to generate leads, build and manage pipeline, forecast accurately, and execute consultative sales strategies through close.
  • Experience leading software demonstrations and explaining technical workflows, data products, and commercial value to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated success navigating complex B2B buying processes involving multiple stakeholders, procurement requirements, and subscription or license agreements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong English proficiency is required.

Preferred

  • Hands-on familiarity with wind software such as UL Solutions or comparable wind resource and plant design tools.
  • Experience with wind development and design processes, engineering, renewable energy, GIS, data analytics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience selling software, subscriptions, APIs, or data products to wind developers, independent power producers, engineering consultants, utilities, turbine manufacturers, investors, or asset owners.
  • Experience delivering professional presentations or demonstrations for customers and at industry events.

Key Competencies for Position

  • Results orientation and a consistent focus on bookings, revenue, pipeline conversion, and customer adoption
  • Consultative discovery, value selling, negotiation, and closing ability
  • Credible technical communication and strong software demonstration skills
  • Wind industry knowledge and curiosity about evolving resource assessment, modeling, data, and project development practices
  • Disciplined territory, account, pipeline, and forecast management
  • Customer-centric collaboration and strong cross-functional execution
  • Willingness and ability to travel 10-15%

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
