The posting

The role

As English Subject Adviser for our extensive portfolio of Secondary Academies (60+) you will embody our ethos of bringing out ’the best in everyone’. Leading subject specific improvement and teacher development, you and your highly skilled colleagues will support departments to raise standards in English Literature and Language, and improve progress and attainment, working effectively with our existing team of advisers and curriculum writers (in English as well as other subjects).

Our Secondary Education Team is at the heart of our school improvement strategy. Working collaboratively with Heads of Department and their teams you will make a difference to thousands of students’ lives by:

1. Supporting our Secondary Academies across the Trust to raise standards in English in all year groups.

2. Visiting schools to provide guidance and feedback to teachers, subject leaders and school leaders. This will includesupporting schools with tier of entry decisions and effective exam preparation.

3. Building the capacity of leaders and teachers including trainees, ECTs, and playing a leading role in our Teacher Development Programme, developing Heads of Department as expert subject leaders who drive curriculum improvement, teacher development and high-quality teaching within English.

4. Developing resources to support the effective teaching and assessment of English throughout our schools, based on the United Learning curriculum.

Practicalities

The role will be predominantly field-based, with substantial travel to our schools across the country, likely to be predominantly, but not exclusively, focused on our schools in our Southern and Midlands regions.

However, home-working is also a core element of the role, and we envisage a broadly 60%-40% split between the two, with considerable autonomy in determining when and where school visits take place. There will also be times when you will need to travel to our main office locations in London or Peterborough, and to other schools in the Trust as required.

United Learning is committed to encouraging and enabling flexible working opportunities throughout our schools and Central Office, and we will accept applications from those preferring a part-time role. Please state your preference in your application.

There is flexibility around the start date, in line with typical notice periods in teaching.

The recruitment process

The online application form asks for education and employment history and a personal statement. In this statement, please outline your suitability for the role.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview, which will take place on the 27 November (online via Teams) and 8 December (in person in one of our schools).

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
