North Cave, East Yorkshire | Manufacturing / Precision Tooling

An excellent opportunity to join an established precision tooling business

We are delighted to be working on behalf of an established precision tooling business seeking an experienced and proactive Credit Control Accounts Assistant to join its finance team in North Cave, East Yorkshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys taking ownership of customer accounts, building strong relationships and playing a key role in maintaining healthy cash flow.

The role will be heavily focused on B2B credit control, with responsibility for proactively managing outstanding debt, chasing overdue invoices, resolving payment queries and working closely with customers and internal teams to ensure payments are received within agreed terms.

Alongside credit control, the successful candidate will support a range of transactional finance activities, including cashbook posting, payment allocation and bank reconciliations. This is a hands-on role offering the opportunity to take ownership of the credit control function while contributing to the wider efficiency and accuracy of the finance team.

The successful candidate will join a business operating within the precision tooling industry, where accuracy, strong customer relationships and effective financial management are important to its continued success.

The role

Reporting to the Head of Accounts, you will play an important role in managing the sales ledger, improving cash collection and ensuring accurate, reliable financial information is available to support the wider business.

You will take ownership of customer accounts, proactively follow up overdue payments and work collaboratively with colleagues to resolve queries and payment issues. The ideal candidate will be confident, organised and persistent when chasing debt, while maintaining professional and positive long-term customer relationships.

Credit control will be the primary focus of the position, supported by transactional finance duties to ensure customer payments are accurately recorded and financial records remain up to date.

Key responsibilities will include:

- B2B credit control and debt recovery: Proactively managing customer accounts, chasing overdue invoices by telephone and email, and ensuring payments are received within agreed credit terms.

- Sales ledger management: Monitoring customer accounts, reviewing outstanding balances and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.

- Customer account management: Building effective relationships with business customers, issuing invoices and statements, and dealing professionally with payment queries and disputes.

- Aged debt management and reporting: Reviewing aged debtor reports, identifying overdue accounts and potential payment risks, and taking appropriate action to minimise outstanding debt and keep debtor days as low as possible.

- Query resolution: Investigating and resolving invoice discrepancies, short payments and other issues that may delay payment, working with internal departments where necessary.

- Internal collaboration: Working closely with colleagues across Sales and other departments to resolve customer issues, agree payment solutions and support the timely collection of outstanding balances.

- Cashbook posting and payment allocation: Recording customer receipts accurately, allocating payments to the correct accounts and investigating unallocated cash.

- Bank reconciliations: Supporting the reconciliation of bank accounts and ensuring transactions are recorded accurately.

- Transactional finance support: Assisting with day-to-day accounts processing and general finance administration as required.

- Wider accounts support: Assisting with supplier statement reconciliations, purchase invoice processing and other routine finance duties where needed.

Requirements

We are looking for an experienced credit control or accounts professional who enjoys working in a hands-on finance role and understands the importance of effective debt collection, accurate financial records and strong customer relationships.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience in B2B credit control, including chasing overdue debt and managing business customer accounts.
  • Confidence dealing with customers about overdue payments, including handling challenging conversations professionally and constructively.
  • Experience monitoring aged debt, producing debtor reports and prioritising collection activity.
  • The ability to investigate payment queries, resolve account discrepancies and work proactively to minimise overdue balances.
  • A good understanding of cashbook posting, payment allocation and bank reconciliations.
  • Experience with transactional finance and general accounts processes.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience using accounting or ERP systems; familiarity with Sage or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central would be beneficial.
  • A proactive, positive approach and the ability to work collaboratively across the business.

A relevant finance or credit control qualification, or equivalent practical experience, would be advantageous. Most importantly, we are looking for someone with a strong credit control mindset who takes ownership of their workload and is motivated to achieve positive cash collection results.

Benefits

Our client recognises the value of experienced finance professionals and offers a competitive package, including:

  • £32,000–£37,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
  • Bonus opportunity.
  • A permanent, full-time position within an established business.
  • Opportunities to develop your experience across credit control and wider transactional finance activities.
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities.

Working hours and location

The position is based in North Cave, East Yorkshire, working Monday to Friday, typically 7:30am–4:30pm. Some flexibility around working hours may be considered for the right person.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
