Summary of Job Duties:

The UA Little Rock Chemistry Program invites applications for a tenure-track Analytical Assistant Professor. The position will be in the Chemistry Program within the School of Physical Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Our program is dedicated to high-quality education at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to teach introductory level chemistry and undergraduate and graduate courses in analytical chemistry, including lecture, laboratory, and special topics; establish and maintain a strong research program in the field of Analytical Chemistry. Currently, the program has GC/MS, CMS-HPLC, UV-NIR, UV-Vis, AA, FT-IR, NMR, TGA/DSC and other standard spectroscopic instrumentation as well as high level computational and visualization resources for theoretical and experimental research. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or related field. All Ph.D. requirements must be completed before employment commences.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Candidates with postdoctoral research experience will be given preference;
  • Experience in teaching analytical chemistry, chemical instrumentation and laboratory courses at the undergraduate and graduate level is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based teaching practices;
  • Strong record of research accomplishments (publications, grant activity, student mentor).

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach introductory level chemistry and undergraduate and graduate courses in analytical chemistry and chemical instrumentation, including lecture, laboratory, and special topics.
  • Develop and sustain a productive, externally funded research program in analytical chemistry;
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research;
  • Contribute through service activities, such as participating in school, college, and university-wide committees, assisting with recruitment efforts, and advising majors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of fundamental and advanced principles of analytical chemistry, including modern analytical instrumentation such as GC-MS, HPLC, NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy and related techniques.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in best teaching, laboratory, and safety practices, including the use of general laboratory equipment and procedures.
  • Committed to students’ success as indicated by prior teaching experience and/or mentoring and supervisory experience of employees.
  • Expertise in face to face and virtual teaching methodologies including active learning practices.
  • Willingness to continually improve teaching through reflective practices and professional development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, external collaborators, and professional organizations.
