Job Description Summary:

The University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking a full-time (12-month) faculty member to join our team in the Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science, and Athletic Training (PTRSAT) with primary teaching responsibilities focused on physical therapy students enrolled in the hybrid pathway of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program. This program expansion was approved by Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) in November 2024 and the first cohort of students will graduate in May 2028.

This faculty position is designated as a non-tenure track position at the Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor level. The faculty member will have experience in online/hybrid instruction in a physical therapy program. The anticipated start date is Summer 2027.

The individual selected for this position will be responsible for activities that contribute to the program and department’s mission and success, ensuring alignment with the University’s mission and strategic plan as it pertains to teaching, research, and service. The purpose of this hybrid DPT pathway is to address the unmet need for PTs in rural Kansas and other medically underserved areas through a more accessible approach to doctoral education. The pathway supports students in investing in their local communities while providing access to the exceptional value and quality of an established, top-ranked public program.

About the Department: The Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science, and Athletic Training (PTRSAT) is one of the largest departments in the School of Health Professions and is a part of the University of Kansas Medical Center. The department has programs at the 39th and Rainbow campus in Kansas City, Kansas, and at the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb within the Kansas City metro. The PTRSAT department houses a nationally recognized Doctor of Physical Therapy program (ranked #16 nationwide, and #9 for DPT programs at public institutions), a growing Master of Science in Athletic Training program, and a well-established PhD in Rehabilitation Science program. The PT program supports JaySTART, an interdisciplinary student-run pro bono clinic to meet the needs of underserved patients in our community. The environment at KU Medical Center provides excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary and interprofessional education and research collaborations. The PTRSAT department provides strong departmental support and infrastructure, including teaching and research mentorship, along with a supportive and collegial work environment. PTRSAT Department faculty are at the forefront of advancing knowledge in rehabilitation and lifestyle interventions, motor control and mobility, and health professions education. The hybrid pathway will provide exciting research opportunities within the department’s LEARN Lab, a collaborative group focused on advancing research in health professions education.

About the University: The University of Kansas School of Health Professions has exemplary collaborative teaching and research opportunities. Over the last five years, the School of Health Professions research portfolio has more than doubled in research funding, and we are positioned to continue this trajectory. The medical center’s 39th and Rainbow campus is part of a premiere urban academic medical center with robust educational, clinical, and research resources, including more than 20 centers and institutes, and partnerships with The University of Kansas Health System. Through a collaborative, interprofessional approach, KU Medical Center prepares future healthcare leaders while advancing innovations that improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities across the state, nation, and globe. There are many opportunities for growth and solution-oriented research in the medical center’s multiple research centers and institutes. For instance, KU Medical Center is one of the few universities to house a National Institute on Aging-designated Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as a National Institutes of Health-funded Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Additionally, the Zamierowski Institute for Experiential Learning is a hotbed of health care simulation supporting innovative instruction and research. The School of Health Professions’ expansion to the KU Edwards campus will give faculty and students access to new, dedicated skills labs, classrooms with the latest technologies, and learning spaces designed to support collaboration.

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
