🔧 What you will be doing as an Electrical Design Engineer at Unum

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will design and develop the electrical systems that bring our suites to life, including actuation, controls, power and lighting. With a mechanical bias to the role, you will spend much of your time on the interface between the two disciplines, making sure electrical components, harnesses and connectors are packaged, routed and supported effectively within the suite structure.

Your key responsibilities include;

  • Owning the electrical architecture and integration of our business-class suite systems, including seat actuation, lighting, passenger interface devices and aircraft-side connections
  • Designing and integrating electrical systems within aircraft suites to meet company, regulatory and customer requirements
  • Producing 3D harness routing, block diagrams, along with 2D/3D electrical installation and systems designs in SolidWorks
  • Integrating seat electrical equipment with mechanical structures, trim and finish, cabin interfaces, and aircraft power and communication systems
  • Coordinating harness routing and installation design with mechanical, systems, industrial design, certification, manufacturing and supplier teams, balancing accessibility, maintainability, weight and space constraints
  • Capturing, analysing and managing electrical requirements, interface definitions, assumptions and design constraints throughout the product lifecycle
  • Leading or contributing to design reviews, ensuring electrical interfaces are technically complete, controlled and agreed with cross-functional teams, customers, aircraft manufacturers and suppliers
  • Taking part in product validation through prototyping, testing and troubleshooting
  • Preparing and reviewing engineering documentation, test procedures, test reports, compliance evidence and certification data
  • Supporting certification and manufacturing teams, and driving improvements in reliability, weight, cost and standardisation as our products and programmes evolve
  • Selecting and specifying electrical components, connectors and actuators, considering mechanical loads, movement, environment and weight

🧠 What we Look For in you as our Electrical Design Engineer

  • Experience in electrical design within aerospace, ideally in aircraft interiors / seating, automotive or a similar regulated environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with experience integrating electrical components into mechanical assemblies (packaging, routing, mounting and actuation).
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD, preferably in Solidworks (and electrical routing design tools)
  • Working knowledge of aerospace electrical standards and certification requirements, such as CS-25 / FAR 25 electrical and EWIS provisions and RTCA DO-160 qualification
  • Experience of supporting prototype build, test and fault finding in a hands-on environment
  • Degree in electrical, electronic, mechatronic or mechanical engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Collaborative, practical problem solver who is comfortable working across disciplines

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
