The posting

Unusual Machines is a U.S.-based drone and drone parts company focused on the small and First-Person View (FPV) segments of the drone market. Our brands - Rotor Riot, Fat Shark, Rotor Lab and - coming soon - Upgrade Energy - are some of the most respected names in FPV and have helped shape the industry through e-commerce, product development, and a deep connection with the pilot community.

We’re expanding into enterprise and defense - bringing our obsessive attention to performance, design, and U.S.-based manufacturing into high-stakes environments like search and rescue and military innovation. With several of our products already approved by the Defense Innovation Unit, we’re solving procurement issues for customers who demand speed, agility, and compliance.

If you love working at the intersection of community, content, and cutting-edge technology, you’ll feel right at home here.

You in This role monitors and inspects products and assemblies at defined checkpoints throughout the manufacturing and assembly process to ensure conformance to engineering specifications, work instructions, and quality standards. Working closely with production and engineering teams, this role serves as the quality checkpoint between production stages — catching issues at the source before they become escapes. The ideal candidate is technically sharp, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced production environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform in-process and final inspections at defined production checkpoints, including sub-assembly, final assembly, and pre-shipment stages for hardware, electronics, and mechanical components.
  • Verify that assemblies, PCBs, cable harnesses, and structural components are built to engineering drawings, BOMs, and approved work instructions.
  • Conduct visual, dimensional, and functional checks using calipers, gauges, magnification tools, and other inspection equipment appropriate to the operation.
  • Inspect solder joints, connector seating, and PCB assemblies in accordance with IPC-A-610 or equivalent standards.
  • Record inspection results in real time within the quality management system (QMS), maintaining accurate and traceable inspection records.
  • Identify and segregate nonconforming product; initiate nonconformance reports (NCRs) and apply proper identification and disposition tags.
  • Communicate defect findings clearly and promptly to production leads and engineers to support real-time corrective action.
  • Participate in first article inspections (FAI) for new or revised assemblies.
  • Monitor and verify production operator adherence to ESD control procedures, FOD prevention practices, and safety requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement activities by tracking defect trends and contributing to root cause analysis.
  • Assist in developing and refining in-process inspection check sheets (Inspection Plans), acceptance criteria, and visual aids.
  • Maintain calibration status of assigned inspection tools and report any out-of-calibration conditions.

What You’ll Bring

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years of experience in in-process inspection, quality control, or a production environment with quality responsibilities.
  • Experience inspecting electronic assemblies, PCBs, or electromechanical components.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and assembly work instructions.
  • Proficiency with standard hand measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, go/no-go gauges).
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to concentrate during repetitive tasks, and commitment to accuracy.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for defect reporting and cross-functional interaction.

Preferred

  • Technical degree or certification in Quality, Electronics, or Manufacturing.
  • Experience with FPV drones, RC electronics, or consumer electronics hardware assembly.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Experience using digital inspection or traceability systems in a production environment.
  • Knowledge of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) control procedures and FOD (Foreign Object Debris/Damage) prevention.
  • Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies)
  • Background in lean manufacturing or 5S practices.

Compensation $24.00-28.00

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
