The posting

Uplight is creating a new category of energy. We make software that manages energy resources in homes and businesses—including things like smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people’s behavior—to generate, shift, or save energy to balance the grid, making it more efficient and reliable. This creates clean energy capacity that can be used by the power grid instead of burning more fossil fuels. Our solutions accelerate the transition to clean energy and save money for energy customers.

We are looking for a Market Development Analyst to drive our company forward, and help us lead the clean energy revolution!

How you will make an impact:

Uplight is seeking a curious, detail-oriented Market Development Analyst to turn utility regulatory developments into actionable policy and commercial intelligence. As part of our Market Development team, you will review state utility commission dockets, filings, and legislation to identify the budgets, program goals, policy mandates, and market developments that matter to Uplight and our utility partners.

You will help senior Market Development staff prepare regulatory engagement, including commission meetings, workgroups, formal comments, testimony, and conversations with utilities about their filings. You will also work closely with Sales and proposal teams to translate complex proceedings into utility-specific insights that strengthen our pipeline and RFP responses.

What you get to do:

1. Regulatory Intelligence & Research

  • Docket and Legislative Monitoring: Find, monitor, and review state utility commission proceedings and relevant legislation across priority states, drawing on filings, trade associations, industry partners, and other research sources.
  • Filings and Data Analysis: Extract critical information—including program budgets, goals, timelines, policy requirements, and potential regulatory risks or opportunities—across customer engagement, energy efficiency, VPP, and DERMS solutions.
  • Research and Synthesis: Combine AI and advanced research tools with your own analysis and judgment to deliver concise executive summaries and detailed regulatory reviews for Market Development and other Uplight teams.

2. Commercial & Pipeline Enablement

  • Sales Intelligence: Equip Sales and Account Management teams with utility-specific priorities, pain points, budgets, and regulatory context to support informed client conversations.
  • Strategic RFP Support: Support proposal teams with relevant regulatory intelligence so responses address utility goals, align with policy direction, and differentiate Uplight’s solutions.
  • Early Opportunity Identification: Track filing dates, approval cycles, program plans, and other leading indicators to identify potential sales opportunities before formal RFPs and maintain pipeline research and tracking.

3. Advocacy & Institutional Knowledge

  • Policy Advocacy Support: Conduct research and develop supporting materials for senior team members preparing commission comments, testimony, meeting materials, and thought leadership.
  • Knowledge Management: Maintain accessible Market Development trackers, summaries, and other shared resources so regulatory developments and utility insights can be used across Uplight.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with Market Development, Sales, and other internal stakeholders, with opportunities for selected external engagements and industry conferences, such as NARUC.

What you bring to Uplight:

We recognize that strong candidates come from a range of backgrounds. If you are interested in the energy transition, can find what matters in complex material, and enjoy translating research into action, we encourage you to apply.

  • Relevant Experience: 2+ years of experience in the regulatory, utility, energy, or climate sectors.
  • Regulatory Literacy: Familiarity with state utility commission proceedings and the ability to navigate dockets and locate material information in filings.
  • Clear Communication: Ability to distill complex regulatory and legislative materials into concise, useful written and verbal takeaways.
  • Analytical Curiosity: Strong research skills, comfort with data, and willingness to learn new markets and AI-enabled research tools.
  • Ownership and Follow-Through: An organized, proactive approach to delivering timely, dependable work.
  • Travel Flexibility: Ability to travel approximately 5%, with potential to increase as experience grows.

Bonus Points

  • Utility or Commission Experience: Experience at a state utility commission or regulated utility.
  • Flexibility Technology: Familiarity with virtual power plants (VPPs), DERMS, or demand-side management.
  • Industry Background: Market Development or Regulatory Affairs experience at a clean-tech SaaS company.
  • Economics or Policy Analysis: Background in economics or policy analysis related to demand-side management.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
