The Solution Architect Varicent at US Foods is a key member of the Varicent IT team having primary responsibility for providing guidance for all related products and services, including influencing the strategic initiatives/roadmaps alongside the Product delivery Leader. This role interacts directly with all levels of management in the IT and business organizations, identifies key customer requirements and presents solutions that meet those requirements.

Leads the architecture, design, development, integration, and ongoing optimization of the Varicent incentive compensation platform. This role translates complex compensation requirements into scalable, secure, auditable solutions that deliver accurate calculations, reliable processing, actionable reporting, and a sustainable technical operating model.

The work for the Solution Architect position is completely remote anywhere in the United States except Hawaii or United States Territories.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Own the end-to-end Varicent solution architecture, including application models, data integrations, calculation logic, workflow, reporting, security, scheduling, and environment strategy, to ensure the platform supports current and future incentive compensation programs.

· Lead the design and hands-on development of complex Varicent ICM solutions, including calculation components, tables, imports, exports, web forms, workflows, and reports, converting approved business requirements into maintainable technical designs.

· Partner with Compensation Administrators, Finance, Sales Operations, Data Engineering, Payroll, HR, Internal Audit, and Technology teams to clarify requirements, evaluate solution options, define acceptance criteria, and align delivery priorities with business outcomes.

· Design, develop, and maintain source and ELT data feeds between Varicent and enterprise platforms, including Snowflake and downstream payroll or reporting processes, while proactively resolving data quality, mapping, and integration errors.

· Oversee Varicent scheduler design and production processing, including nightly, weekly, monthly, and annual cycles; monitor system health, troubleshoot failures, optimize model performance, and drive permanent resolution of recurring issues.

· Establish and enforce development standards, code review practices, source documentation, testing controls, deployment procedures, and migration approvals across development, test, and production environments to reduce operational risk.

· Lead technical testing and release readiness for new compensation plans, plan changes, integrations, and platform enhancements; support user acceptance testing, validate calculation results, and coordinate production implementation and stabilization.

· Develop and maintain end-user reports and outbound data products that provide clear visibility into incentive results, trends, adjustments, payroll outputs, and operational controls for associates and business stakeholders.

· Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and design guidance to Varicent developers, analysts, administrators, and delivery partners; serve as the senior escalation point for complex platform, performance, and integration issues.

· Support financial audit, SOX, access governance, data retention, and change-control requirements by maintaining traceable logic, evidence, documentation, reconciliations, and appropriate segregation of duties.

· Other duties as assigned by manager.

· SQL skills and strong experience designing and troubleshooting data integrations, dimensional data structures, reconciliation processes, and high-volume batch workflows.

· Experience translating complex compensation plan rules into technical designs that are accurate, scalable, auditable, and understandable to business and technical stakeholders.

· Experience leading solution design, code reviews, technical testing, release planning, deployment, production support, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization.

· Working knowledge of software development lifecycle, source and change control, DevOps practices, access controls, segregation of duties, and audit or SOX control expectations.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
