Job Description
The Department of Periodontics is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to support federally funded practice-based and translational research activities, with primary responsibility for the National Dental Practice Training Center (NDP-TC) and related National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (National Dental PBRN) activities. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and research team, the Research Assistant will provide day-to-day research and administrative support for studies involving community-based dental practitioners. The position will assist with practitioner recruitment and follow-up, study tracking, REDCap data collection, preparation and organization of study materials, meeting coordination, documentation, and monitoring completion of study activities. This is an entry-level research position appropriate for an individual with a bachelor’s degree who will receive project-specific training and supervision.
This position is funded through a grant for a period of two years. Continued employment beyond the two-year grant period is contingent upon the availability of continued funding.
Responsibilities
- Assist with recruitment, enrollment, and follow-up of dental practitioners participating in research studies.
- Maintain practitioner recruitment, enrollment, participation, and follow-up tracking systems.
- Assist with REDCap-based data collection, data entry, quality checks, and identification of incomplete or missing study information.
- Prepare study correspondence, recruitment materials, training materials, meeting documents, and other research-related communications.
- Communicate with participating practitioners and study personnel regarding routine study activities, deadlines, materials, and follow-up needs under supervision of the research team.
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of study meetings, training sessions, webinars, and Project ECHO activities.
- Support distribution and tracking of study and training materials.
- Maintain organized study files and documentation in accordance with approved protocols and institutional requirements.
- Assist with monitoring study progress and preparing routine recruitment, retention, and study-status reports for the investigative team.
- Support literature reviews, preparation of presentations, reports, manuscripts, and other research products.
- Participate in research team meetings and assist investigators and senior research personnel with other assigned research activities.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong attention to detail, organizational ability, written and oral communication skills, ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines, and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic communication platforms. Familiarity with REDCap, clinical research, practice-based research, or community-engaged research is desirable but may be developed through training.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree in a basic science is required.
PREFERRED:
- Previous experience working with an academic research internship.
