About Vagaro

Vagaro is a global leader in cloud-based business management software for the salon, spa, beauty, fitness, and wellness industries. Our product-led platform helps businesses manage scheduling, payments, marketing, and operations in one place.

Job Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Android Architect to own the architecture, quality, and scalability of the Vagaro Pro and Vagaro customer Android apps. You will set technical direction for the Android platform, lead the modernization of a large production codebase, and raise the engineering bar across the mobile team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the Android app architecture: modularization, layering, state management, navigation, and dependency injection.
  • Define and drive the Android technical roadmap, including the Java to Kotlin and XML to Jetpack Compose migration.
  • Author architecture decision records (ADRs) and design docs; review and approve significant designs and critical PRs.
  • Design API contracts with backend teams covering REST, pagination, error handling, offline sync, and versioning.
  • Set and enforce targets for crash-free users, ANR rate, cold start time, app size, and memory usage.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for production crashes and incidents, and drive fixes to closure.
  • Define the Android testing strategy (unit, UI, integration) and automation coverage gates per release.
  • Own app security: encrypted storage, certificate pinning, token handling, and OWASP MASVS alignment.
  • Improve CI/CD, Gradle build performance, the release train, staged rollouts, and feature flag usage.
  • Mentor Android engineers, run architecture reviews, and take part in technical hiring.

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of software engineering, including 5+ years building native Android apps shipped at scale.
  • 2+ years in an architect, tech lead, or principal role owning architecture decisions.
  • Expert in Kotlin, with strong working knowledge of Java for legacy code and hands-on Jetpack Compose and View/XML interop.
  • Strong in Coroutines, Flow, and StateFlow, with a solid grasp of threading and lifecycle.
  • Expert in MVVM / MVI, Clean Architecture, and multi-module project structure.
  • Experience with Hilt/Dagger, Room, DataStore, Retrofit, OkHttp, and WorkManager.
  • Proficient with Gradle (Kotlin DSL), version catalogs, R8/ProGuard, and build optimization.
  • Testing with JUnit, MockK, Espresso, and Compose UI testing.
  • Performance work using Android Profiler, Baseline Profiles, Macrobenchmark, and ANR analysis.
  • Experience with Firebase Crashlytics, FCM, and Play Console (staged rollouts, vitals, policy compliance).
  • Mobile CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps and Fastlane.
  • Clear written communication for design docs, ADRs, and RCA reports.

Good to Have

  • Working knowledge of iOS or Kotlin Multiplatform.
  • Experience with WebView/React screens embedded in native apps and bridge design.
  • Mobile payments or POS experience (card readers, tap-to-pay, PCI considerations).
  • Accessibility (TalkBack, WCAG) and localization at scale.
  • Experience with multi-tenant SaaS products.

Why Join Us

  • 5-day work week with a flexible schedule
  • 15 paid leaves + 11 holidays, with leave encashment
  • Comprehensive family medical insurance and maternity benefits
  • Annual bonus and recognition programs
  • Learning resources, tech sessions, gaming zones, Fun Fridays, and cultural events

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
