Engineering Technician I – VTC

Position Summary

The Engineering Technician I provides hands-on support for engineering development, testing, and product validation activities. This role assists with the assembly, troubleshooting, modification, and testing of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems. The successful candidate will support engineers in developing new products, improving existing designs, and maintaining laboratory and test equipment.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving real-world technical problems, building and modifying equipment, and seeing projects progress from concept through testing and validation. The candidate should be comfortable working independently on assigned projects while also contributing as part of a collaborative engineering team when required.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory and test equipment.
  • Assemble, modify, repair, and test mechanical and electromechanical systems.
  • Assist engineers with prototype development, product testing, validation, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Develop and execute test procedures while collecting, analyzing, and documenting test data.
  • Support PLC-based control systems, instrumentation, sensors, and automated test equipment.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of National Instruments LabVIEW applications and data acquisition systems.
  • Perform machining, fabrication, and modification of test fixtures, tooling, and prototype components.
  • Support programming and integration of control systems, sensors, and data acquisition hardware.
  • Maintain accurate test records, reports, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations personnel to resolve technical issues and support project objectives.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory and shop environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PLC programming and industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with National Instruments LabVIEW and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience with machining, fabrication, or operation of manual and CNC equipment.
  • Basic programming knowledge (Python, C#, LabVIEW, Ladder Logic, or similar).
  • Experience with instrumentation, sensors, electrical wiring, and automation equipment.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, machine tools, and test equipment.
  • Hands-on experience through technical school projects, co-ops, internships, robotics teams, military technical training, makerspaces, automotive projects, or personal technical projects.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys hands-on technical work and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and get dirty when needed. They take pride in building, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving equipment. They are equally comfortable working independently on assigned tasks and collaborating with engineers and fellow technicians to achieve team goals. A natural curiosity, mechanical mindset, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn new technologies are essential for success in this role.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
