A Brief Summary of This Position

The primary responsibility of the Cutoff Operator is to set up and operate cutoff equipment to ensure steel tubing is produced at precise lengths with minimal burr or scarf. This position requires attention to detail, including checking the pipe for dents, scratches, and other surface imperfections, as well as inspecting both the inside and outside of the pipe. The Cutoff Operator will also assist with setup tasks such as adjusting tape measures, changing out tools for different cuts (including bevel and square), and supporting quality inspection by cutting samples for review. The position involves logging shift reports and scrap data, as well as performing changeovers, such as swapping clamps or tools, based on the production requirements. The Cutoff Operator will work closely with the lead to follow production orders and ensure quality standards are met consistently, including managing scrap rates and ensuring the correct length of pipe is produced.

Essential Functions.

  • Set up and operate various cutoff equipment, including three flying lathe-style cutoffs, one flying bandsaw cutoff, and two flying friction cutoffs, ensuring precise tube lengths within specified tolerances.
  • Perform all necessary quality checks, including measuring flash control, tube length, surface condition, weld seams, wall tolerance, O.D. and I.D. sizing, and other attributes as per the production card to produce a high-quality product.
  • Ensure minimal burr and scarf when cutting tubes and adjust machine setups to maintain consistent cuts, preventing distortion at the tube ends.
  • Operate computer-controlled equipment and ensure the correct setup of the cutoffs.
  • Perform flattening and flare tests as necessary.
  • Track and record data, including footage produced, orders completed, and elapsed times, ensuring accurate documentation of all production activities.

  • Maintain accurate records of inspection sheets, production cards, and metallurgical lab reports, ensuring compliance with customer specifications.
  • Maintain inventory control over tools, ensuring adequate supplies and readiness for production.
  • Safely lift up to 20 pounds frequently throughout the shift and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in adherence to safety policies.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on the cutoff machine and sizing section to ensure proper functionality and minimize downtime.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, anticipating potential issues and adjusting plans as needed to adapt to changes in steel properties or mill conditions.
  • Provide accurate measurements for steel by reading portable C.I.R stations and cut samples for quality analysis when required.
  • Stencil tubing with required information for customer specifications.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
