A Brief Summary of This Position:

This is an individual contributor position responsible for developing and managing the maintenance schedule in order to balance effectively the preventative maintenance demands and repair of essential equipment and facilities. Schedule is segmented by daily, weekly and monthly buckets. Position responsibilities include planning, scheduling and coordinating the maintenance schedule by reviewing and releasing work orders, and supplier schedules as well as doing emergency purchase of items for maintenance requirements. This position is responsible for aligning resources with demand based on PM planning and shop floor needs. This position does purchasing for essential maintenance items not maintained in inventory and supplier scheduled orders according to existing strategy and negotiated prices. This position manages work orders and expenses for maintaining essential equipment, maintenance hours and other information as needed. Creating and executing any required action plans to close gaps. Demonstration of the core values of the Valmont Way is also required.

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports into the Maintenance Supervisor
  • Create, assign, schedule, and monitor work orders in MaintainX
  • This position coordinates the activities and deployable maintenance schedules
  • Evaluate PM requirements and create Work Orders for PM, project work and repair work required by the maintenance team
  • Maintain planned scheduling parameters, such as lead-times, lot sizes, safety stocks, delivery times and order file data for all scheduled items
  • Create a schedule that satisfies production demands with optimum scheduling to prevent equipment downtime
  • Identify, negotiate, and resolve conflicts with respect to material and capacity availability and order-promising integrity
  • Source and request quotes for new material, or new suppliers for special purchase items.
  • Review PM’s for new or change to existing materials. Coordinate and manage inventory levels
  • Summarize daily and weekly work orders for released and firm planned orders and compare these to the PM plan to ensure that all maintenance needs are met

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Develop a working knowledge of Valmont equipment, manufacturing and scheduling processes to ensure optimal value stream schedule stability, work order creation, rescheduling, load leveling, etc.
  • Learn and lead the implementation of Lean scheduling techniques such as Pull and Level Scheduling
  • Inform management when demand cannot be met and recommend alternatives on how the requested demand could be satisfied.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Bachelors in relevant field or Associates Degree with 3+ years of experience or 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing techniques
  • Attention to detail and quality in work

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Posses These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Prior experience setting up and planning schedules
  • Demonstrated abilities in visual scheduling and inventory optimization
  • Prior experience with master scheduling utilizing production family methodologies
  • Thinks globally about the entire business and committed to supporting the needs and goals of an integrated global organization
  • An understanding of priorities and balances short-term and long-term requirements
  • Communicates openly and honestly in a clear and concise manner on an ongoing basis
  • Knowledge of mathematics and data analysis
  • Prior experience outsourcing and purchasing
  • Knowledge of IFS planning, scheduling, and replenishment tools

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting, with occasional visits to manufacturing settings. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office and visit manufacturing facilities. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. When in the production facility, the employee will be required to wear safety shoes, safety glasses, high visibility clothing and hearing protection.
