Job Description

The Project Manager is a key individual contributor and team member in the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Innovation (OVPRI), providing strategic and tactical leadership for projects supported by the Vice Provost’s Office. This highly visible role requires strategic thinking, excellent stakeholder management, technical know-how, and operational excellence. This role will employ effective project management techniques to plan, develop, and coordinate key initiatives within the Vice Provost’s Office. The Project Manager is also responsible for tracking qualitative and quantitative data collection and reporting on projects through both written reports and presentations. This role works with both internal and external stakeholders and partners to successfully set and meet project milestones and goals established by the Vice Provost and the Senior Director of Research Strategy.

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Research Strategy, the Project Manager oversees complex projects to advance the university’s research mission and strategic research and innovation vision in coordination with key stakeholders in research and innovation at Vanderbilt University and external partner and/or sponsor entities. This position is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to advance sponsored projects administration, technology transfer and commercialization, research security and compliance, and efforts to increase and diversify Vanderbilt’s research funding portfolio. The ideal candidate should have excellent judgment in knowing when to lead or support a cross-functional team and be capable of bringing out views from all disciplines to inform one strategic plan. A successful candidate will thrive in an ambiguous, cross-functional environment where they can understand different perspectives and provide discussion frameworks to enable trade-offs and decisions.

The VP-RI works with a broad range of University stakeholders, including faculty and others, in advocating for the research and scholarship missions of all disciplines at Vanderbilt.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
