Company Description

Vattenfall is a leading European energy company driving the transition to a sustainable energy system. We have been electrifying industries, powering homes and transforming life through innovation for more than 100 years. We employ around 21 000 people mostly in our core markets in Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the UK.

Job Description

Are you an experienced OT SCADA professional who wants to help secure the reliable operation of business-critical systems? Would you like to apply your technical expertise in an operational technology environment supporting the future of renewable energy?

As our new OT SCADA Engineer (Integration & Operations), you will be responsible for engineering, integrating, maintaining, operating, and continuously improving SCADA systems, ensuring data flows between power plants, market-facing control applications used by BA Markets, the Operational Control Centre’s monitoring and control systems, and other data consumers underpinning Vattenfall’s business-critical renewable-energy Operational Technology applications.

You will participate in the team’s on-call rotation to support business-critical services that operate around the clock. You will help restore service during incidents and implement corrective and preventive improvements.

A key part of your role will be applying structured engineering, security and lifecycle-management principles to keep the platforms reliable, supportable and compliant with Vattenfall standards and operational requirements. You will work closely with internal colleagues, external stakeholders and suppliers.

Be in your element with BA Wind

As part of BA Wind you will play a key role in one of the most exciting pipelines in the industry with 24GW of capacity stretching out more than a decade ahead across our key European markets.

You won’t only be involved in developing projects but pioneering cutting-edge innovation, new business models and ways of working with communities and the environment. Working as part of a leading European utility also means you could be helping a growing number of major businesses and brands achieve their own sustainability goals through partnerships.

Qualifications

Your role

As an OT SCADA Engineer, you will take ownership of SCADA systems and related data flows throughout their lifecycle, from initial analysis and engineering through implementation, operation, improvement and eventual replacement or decommissioning.

You will combine hands-on technical work with structured planning, documentation, and collaboration. Your focus will be on maintaining secure, reliable, and scalable SCADA systems and proactively identifying opportunities to strengthen performance, availability, and operational resilience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Engineering, configuring, commissioning, maintaining, and improving OT SCADA solutions and interfaces for assets in operation and development.
  • Delivering and supporting reliable data flows from plant-level systems through approved OT integration layers to monitoring, control, analytics, reporting, and data-platform consumers.
  • Assessing site and interface readiness, identifying integration prerequisites, technical constraints, dependencies, risks and ownership boundaries, and defining requirements and integration approaches.
  • Configuring, deploying, and supporting resilient SCADA integration components, including industrial edge devices or gateways, connectors, and data pipelines, with appropriate monitoring, troubleshooting, deployment documentation, and operational handover.
  • Planning, estimating, and tracking assigned work, making dependencies, risks, and progress visible, and documenting and maintaining technical records and operational knowledge.
  • Providing operational support, including incident diagnosis, service restoration, root-cause and problem analysis, defining and implementing preventive and proactive improvement actions.
  • Participating in the team's on-call rotation, providing specialist OT SCADA support for business-critical services outside normal working hours.
  • Improving observability and data quality through health monitoring, completeness checks, alerting, backfilling support, performance analysis, and clear operational ownership.
  • Planning and executing lifecycle upgrades, migrations, patches, configuration changes, and component replacements using approved change and DTAP practices.
  • Producing requirements, designs, implementation guides, configuration records, test cases, support documentation, and operational handover packages including operational runbooks, support responsibilities and escalation arrangements
  • Supporting technical purchasing and supplier coordination through technical evaluations, solution validation, and design reviews.
  • Preparing and executing tests and commissioning checks for assigned solutions, recording test evidence, tracking defects to resolution, and supporting factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT), acceptance decisions, and operational-readiness assessments.
  • Standardizing repeatable integration services and work packages for asset projects, while supporting refinement and estimation of less standardized initiatives.
  • Supporting internal and external audit activities.

Your profile

You hold a relevant bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, automation or control engineering, computer engineering, technical computer science, industrial IT, or a related discipline. Alternatively, you have developed equivalent professional competence through a relevant technical qualification and substantial experience in OT SCADA engineering.

You have several years of hands-on experience engineering, integrating, and supporting SCADA systems or comparable industrial OT solutions, including responsibility for systems in operation. You thrive when taking ownership of solutions from analysis and design through to implementation, operation, and continuous improvement. You are equally comfortable working independently and collaborating with colleagues, suppliers, and stakeholders across the organisation. To succeed in this role, you must have excellent written and spoken English skills. The role may also be subject to security clearance, and candidates must be able to meet the applicable screening requirements.

You bring knowledge and experience in:

  • SCADA systems and interfaces: configuring, integrating, commissioning, managing, maintaining, operating, and supporting SCADA applications, gateways, and interfaces connecting operational assets with central systems and data consumers.
  • Industrial communications: working with relevant industrial protocols such as OPC UA, IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus TCP or MQTT, as well as APIs and vendor-specific interfaces where applicable, and diagnosing communication and integration issues.
  • Operational resilience: practical understanding of high availability, service monitoring and logging, SCADA application and configuration backup and recovery, and configuration management, including dependencies on hosting and network services.
  • Operational data flows: understanding signal mapping, timestamps, data quality, buffering, and the recovery of missing historical data.
  • Incident and problem management: diagnosing faults across SCADA applications, interfaces, source and target systems, including dependencies on server services, networks, certificates and service accounts; restoring services; investigating root causes; and implementing preventive and proactive improvements.
  • Controlled technical changes: planning and delivering upgrades, migrations and configuration changes with appropriate testing, deployment documentation, rollback arrangements and operational handover.
  • Secure OT operation: applying OT security requirements, including access controls, certificate handling, system hardening and vulnerability management, within approved architectures and change procedures and in collaboration with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams.
  • Engineering documentation: producing and maintaining clear technical documentation of SCADA system architectures, configurations and procedures.
  • Supplier collaboration: supporting technical purchasing, assessing and validating solutions, supporting acceptance testing and coordinating technical work with colleagues and external suppliers.

Additional experience that would be valuable:

  • Renewable energy, utilities or comparable industrial environments.
  • OEM SCADA interfaces.
  • Industrial edge platforms or gateways.
  • SCADA historians, SQL databases, scripting and automation.

Personal traits

To succeed in this role, we believe that you:

  • Bring strong analytical skills, approach technical challenges with proactive, structured problem-solving, and remain composed when resolving operational incidents.
  • Communicate clearly and can connect technical, operational and supplier-related perspectives.
  • Are comfortable taking end-to-end responsibility, from analysis and planning through implementation and delivery.
  • Work independently while contributing actively and collaborating effectively across disciplines with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Are organised, reliable and committed to high-quality documentation.
  • Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Use sound judgment to balance immediate service restoration, long-term reliability, maintainability and agreed delivery priorities.
  • Are willing to participate in the team’s on-call rotation.

We look forward to receiving your application!

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
