The posting

vConstruct, a Pune-based Construction Technology company, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Virtual Designer with hands-on experience in structural steel detailing and Tekla Structures. This role supports the development of accurate, coordinated, and constructible structural steel models and drawings while meeting project requirements, quality standards, and delivery schedules.

The associate virtual designer works under the guidance of Senior Modelers, Modelers, Checkers, and other project team members to understand project scope, interpret design information, execute assigned modeling and drawing tasks, and escalate technical issues appropriately. The role provides an opportunity to build technical expertise in structural steel modelling, detailing, constructability, and fabrication practices while learning established project workflows and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review structural drawings, client detailing standards, addendums, RFIs, reference models, and other project documents to understand design intent, project scope, and assigned modelling requirements.
  • Develop and update 3D structural steel models using Tekla Structures for assigned tasks, following current design drawings, project requirements, established workflows, and company standards.
  • Prepare and refine shop, fabrication, and erection drawings under appropriate guidance, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements and detailing standards.
  • Model primary and secondary structural steel components, connections, embeds, and miscellaneous steel items within the assigned scope and with guidance as needed.
  • Understand assigned tasks, internal schedules, planned hours, and delivery milestones, and communicate progress or difficulties to the appropriate team members.
  • Support BIM/VDC coordination and model-based reviews to identify clashes, spatial or sequencing conflicts, missing information, and potential constructability concerns. Escalate issues to Senior Modelers, Modelers, Checkers, or other appropriate project team members.
  • Incorporate approved design revisions, RFI responses, and client comments into models and drawings under established procedures. Support the identification and documentation of technical queries as required.
  • Assist with preparing or updating submittal logs and tracking required documentation using established project management platforms.
  • Perform self-checks before submitting work for review. Implement feedback from Senior Modelers and Checkers, learn from identified errors, and apply quality procedures to improve accuracy and reduce rework.
  • Follow project-specific modelling standards, numbering systems, reports, and workflows. Develop a strong understanding of structural steel connections, fabrication and erection practices, AISC standards, and applicable project requirements.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means consistently delivering:

  • Accurate and coordinated structural steel models and drawings for assigned tasks.
  • Timely completion of work in line with agreed schedules and priorities.
  • Quality deliverables with minimal avoidable errors, revisions, and rework.
  • Consistent application of project standards, detailing practices, and quality procedures.
  • Effective identification and escalation of technical issues and constructability concerns.
  • Effective collaboration with Senior Modelers, Modelers, Checkers, Engineers, and other project team members.
  • Demonstrable improvement in technical skills, modelling accuracy, productivity, and detailing knowledge.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.
  • 2-4 years of experience in structural steel detailing, including hands-on experience with Tekla Structures modelling.
  • Experience working on structural steel projects involving 3D modelling, detailing, and drawing production.
  • Basic understanding of structural steel fabrication, connections, and erection practices.
  • Foundational knowledge of AISC standards and U.S. structural steel detailing practices.
  • Ability to interpret structural drawings, specifications, shop requirements, RFIs, and other construction documents.

Technical Skills

  • Working proficiency in Tekla Structures.
  • Foundational structural steel 3D modelling and detailing skills.
  • Basic understanding of structural steel connections and constructability.
  • Familiarity with model validation, self-checking, and quality review processes.
  • Foundational knowledge of AISC standards and U.S. structural steel detailing practices.
  • Understanding of BIM/VDC coordination fundamentals.
  • Good knowledge of Tekla custom components and system components.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam or similar review and markup tools.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience supporting U.S. structural steel detailing projects.
  • Basic knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, or other BIM/VDC platforms.
  • Familiarity with submittal documentation or project management platforms.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and openness to feedback.
  • A positive attitude toward technical development, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
