Job Purpose:

The 2nd Shift Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating second-shift warehouse operations across multiple facilities, including Inventory, Fulfillment, and RACE (Returns, Assembly, Combo Packing, and Escalation), as scheduled based on operational needs.

This is primarily a people management and operational execution role. The supervisor will oversee second-shift employees and designated on-site leads across both facilities, coordinate work assignments and staffing coverage by location, maintain productivity and safety standards, and ensure operational goals are achieved.

The role requires strong leadership, sound judgment, flexibility, and the ability to independently coordinate operations at two sites, with clear on-site coverage and escalation procedures when the supervisor is physically present at only one facility.

Essential Responsibilities:

People Management & Team Leadership

  • Directly supervise second-shift warehouse employees across Inventory, Fulfillment, and RACE at both Houston-area facilities, with appropriate on-site leads or designated points of contact at each location.
  • Manage attendance, work assignments, employee performance, and workplace discipline.
  • Provide clear instructions, coaching, and feedback to employees.
  • Maintain a productive, accountable, and positive working environment.
  • Address employee concerns and operational conflicts promptly and professionally.
  • Coordinate employee training and cross-training with department supervisors.

2nd Shift Operations & Execution

  • Oversee second-shift activities at both warehouse facilities and ensure assigned tasks are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Execute work priorities established by department supervisors and warehouse management.
  • Monitor workload, productivity, task completion, and operational backlogs.
  • Identify operational issues and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Maintain consistent execution standards across all warehouse functions.
  • Coordinate with designated on-site leads to maintain clear supervision, communication, and escalation coverage at both facilities throughout the shift.

Staffing & Resource Allocation

  • Plan and assign second-shift employees by facility and function based on workload, priorities, and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate staffing across warehouse functions and the two facilities when needed, considering employee qualifications, training, travel time, and approved staffing plans.
  • Monitor labor utilization and minimize unnecessary overtime.
  • Respond effectively to employee absences, unexpected workload changes, and operational disruptions.
  • Provide feedback on staffing requirements and workforce planning.

Safety & Equipment Management

  • Enforce warehouse safety procedures and equipment operation requirements.
  • Ensure routine safety checks and prompt response to unsafe conditions at both facilities, using designated on-site coverage when necessary.
  • Ensure material handling equipment is used properly and safely.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, damage, and safety incidents.
  • Follow established emergency response and incident escalation procedures.

Operational Knowledge & Process Compliance

  • Develop a practical working understanding of Inventory, Fulfillment, and RACE workflows.
  • Ensure employees follow established SOPs and ERP/WMS procedures.
  • Recognize process errors, inventory discrepancies, and operational exceptions.
  • Coordinate with department supervisors when specialized guidance is required.
  • Support the implementation of approved process improvements.

Shift Handover & Communication

  • Review shift priorities, staffing coverage, and outstanding work for both facilities with department supervisors and warehouse management.
  • Provide clear end-of-shift reports by facility covering completed tasks, productivity, staffing, operational issues, and pending work.
  • Communicate unresolved issues and required follow-up actions to the appropriate supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate shift records and ensure important issues are properly escalated.

Requirements

  • Experience supervising warehouse or distribution center employees.
  • Strong people management, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple work groups, coordinate coverage across two warehouse locations, and respond to changing priorities.
  • Working knowledge of warehouse operations, including inventory and order fulfillment.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.
  • Familiarity with warehouse safety practices and material handling equipment.
  • Basic understanding of WMS systems and operational reporting.

Preferred

  • Experience managing second-shift or night-shift warehouse operations.
  • Experience supervising multiple warehouse functions or coordinating operations across more than one facility within one shift.
  • Experience in DTC/e-commerce fulfillment or high-volume distribution.
  • Experience with labor planning, productivity tracking, and cross-training.

Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to stand and bend for long periods of time with occasional squat, stoop, and turn at waist in a warehouse environment. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 lbs. unassisted. Must be comfortable working at significant heights on machinery (up to 24 feet). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Benefits

  • The salary range is $60,000-$67,000.
  • Flexible Paid Time Off.
  • 12 PTO days per year, accrued bi-weekly, with annual increase.
  • 7 paid Holidays.
  • 401k contribution match of 4%.
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance plans. The Company pays 100% of premiums for its employees for Dental, Vision, Life, and select Medical plans.
  • Toll Roads Allowance of $140 per month.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
