The posting

As an Engineer, Grid Connection, you will support the successful delivery of Vena Energy's renewable energy projects across Australia by contributing to grid connection activities throughout the project lifecycle, from early-stage development and connection studies through to commissioning and operations. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Grid & Technical Services, you will work closely with internal project teams, network service providers, AEMO, EPC contractors and equipment manufacturers to help deliver technically robust and commercially successful grid connection outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the identification and assessment of new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), solar and wind development opportunities through power system studies, network analysis and market planning reviews.
  • Contribute to grid connection strategies and technical assessments across the full project lifecycle, from development through to commissioning and operations.
  • Perform and support power system modelling and simulations using tools such as PSS®E and PSCAD to inform grid connection outcomes.
  • Assist with R0, R1 and R2 grid connection studies, supporting connection approvals, registration requirements and project delivery milestones.
  • Support the negotiation and delivery of Generator Performance Standards (GPS) with Network Service Providers (NSPs) and AEMO.
  • Collaborate with EPC contractors, OEMs, NSPs and AEMO to resolve technical grid connection matters.
  • Support hold point testing, model validation and compliance activities for renewable energy projects.
  • Undertake technical due diligence and performance assessments of inverter, PPC and other generation technologies.
  • Contribute to grid connection solutions for emerging technologies including grid-forming BESS, offshore wind and hydrogen projects.
  • Stay informed of changes to the National Electricity Rules (NER) and provide technical input to industry and regulatory consultations.

Prerequisites:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on Power Systems.
  • 2-5 years' experience in power systems, grid connection or renewable energy projects.
  • Understanding of Australian grid connection processes and NER Chapter 5 / Schedule 5.2 requirements.
  • Experience with power system modelling tools such as PSS®E and PowerFactory; PSCAD experience is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to tackle complex engineering challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across diverse project teams.
  • Experience supporting GPS negotiations, registration activities or hold point testing will be highly regarded.
  • Applicants must have the legal right to work in Australia on a full-time, ongoing basis.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
