Position Summary

The IT Portfolio Manager leads the processes, forums, and controls used to evaluate, prioritize, monitor, and optimize the organization’s IT portfolio. This role connects business strategy to technology investment decisions, ensures governance is practical and effective, and provides clear visibility into portfolio performance, resource demand, and value realization. The manager works across the organization to maintain a balanced portfolio and support sound decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end IT portfolio governance process, including demand intake, business case review, prioritization, stage-gate reviews, exception handling, and portfolio reporting.
  • Partner with executives and business stakeholders to align the IT portfolio with strategic objectives, investment constraints, and enterprise priorities.
  • Facilitate governance bodies such as portfolio review boards, steering committees, and prioritization forums, ensuring decisions are documented and followed through.
  • Maintain portfolio management standards, governance policies, decision criteria, templates, and controls that are clear, scalable, and fit for purpose.
  • Monitor portfolio performance through KPIs, dashboards, and executive reports covering schedule, budget, benefits, capacity, dependencies, risks, and issue trends.
  • Identify portfolio-level risks, bottlenecks, and cross-program dependencies, and escalate recommendations for corrective action or governance decisions.
  • Support resource and capacity planning by highlighting constraints, demand conflicts, and sequencing options across the IT change portfolio.
  • Promote portfolio transparency and decision quality by improving data standards, governance discipline, and reporting accuracy across the organization.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, business, project management, finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in IT portfolio management, governance, or program management.
  • Strong understanding of portfolio governance, investment prioritization, business case evaluation, risk management, and benefits tracking.
  • Experience working with senior leaders to support strategic planning, funding decisions, and cross-functional prioritization.
  • Demonstrated ability to build dashboards, governance reports, and executive-level presentations that translate complex data into clear decisions.
  • Familiarity with project, program, and product delivery methods across waterfall, agile, and hybrid environments.
  • Excellent facilitation, stakeholder management, communication, and decision-support skills.
  • Certification in PMP, PgMP, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent
  • Experience with enterprise portfolio management or PPM tools.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise architecture, cybersecurity governance, data governance, and IT financial management.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, inspire collaboration, and navigate cultural and geographic diversity
  • Experience navigating a global organization
  • This role is in the office 5 days per week with the potential for domestic/international travel upwards of 25% annually

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
