The Database Administrator will support the administration, availability, performance, replication, backup and recovery, and ongoing sustainment of mission-critical InterSystems IRIS and Caché database environments.

This position supports Development, Test, Staging, and Production environments in a fast-paced operational setting and requires collaboration with VA staff, Oracle Health, application developers, engineers, infrastructure teams, and other contractors. The role may require support for production deployments, upgrades, sustainment activities, and after-hours or on-call operations to maintain Data Migration continuity and EHRM site-conversion readiness.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer, sustain, configure, upgrade, patch, and troubleshoot InterSystems IRIS and Caché database environments supporting VX130 and related DMM systems across Development, Test, Staging, and Production.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot IRIS Mirror consistency, VistA Shadow consistency, Journal Readers, Data Filers, Ensemble/HealthShare transmissions to Oracle Health, high-availability environments, storage utilization, encryption, backups, and data-quality indicators.
  • Perform database capacity planning, performance tuning, configuration optimization, and proactive monitoring to maintain system availability, reliability, and performance as Data Migration environments evolve.
  • Execute and validate database backup and recovery activities, including recurring recovery testing, and identify, troubleshoot, resolve, document, and report database, platform, performance, and data-quality issues.
  • Support InterSystems IRIS on Linux across bare-metal, virtual-machine, and containerized environments while collaborating with Linux, Windows, storage, network, application, VA, and Oracle Health teams to resolve cross-platform issues.
  • Maintain accurate database configuration, operational, backup/recovery, change-management, and ATO-supporting documentation while supporting production deployments, upgrades, sustainment activities, and site-conversion readiness.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, with 5+ years of hands-on database administration experience, including significant experience with InterSystems Caché and/or InterSystems IRIS.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with database operations, configuration, troubleshooting, system design, performance tuning, capacity planning, backup/recovery, and high-availability environments.
  • Hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting InterSystems IRIS Mirror and/or Caché/IRIS replication technologies.
  • Practical Linux administration experience, working knowledge of Windows Server environments, and experience supporting production systems using formal change, configuration, incident, and problem-management practices.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify, document, communicate, and resolve complex database, platform, performance, and operational issues.
  • Strong oral and written communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced operations environment.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with VX130, VistA, Ensemble/HealthShare, ObjectScript/MUMPS, or Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare data platforms.
  • Experience supporting InterSystems IRIS across containers/Kubernetes, virtual machines, and bare-metal infrastructure, as well as experience with SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, SQL, scripting, or related enterprise database technologies.
  • Previous experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), federal healthcare programs, EHR modernization, or similar mission-critical government healthcare environments.

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • All selected candidates must successfully complete a background check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance, including required fingerprinting, when required for the position.

Benefits:

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
