Job Description
Level 1 – Material Handling Fundamentals
- Consistently demonstrate safe material handling and warehouse practices.
- Properly receive, move, stage, and issue raw materials and production components.
- Competently operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other approved material handling equipment.
- Accurately identify material types, part numbers, heat numbers, and inventory labels.
- Maintain organized inventory locations and proper material storage practices.
- Follow FIFO requirements and inventory control procedures where applicable.
- Perform basic ERP/WMS transactions accurately.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with company safety standards.
- Understand basic shipping, receiving, and inventory procedures.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance, communication, and teamwork.
Level 2 – Material Handling Proficiency
- All Level 1 requirements.
- Efficiently coordinate movement of materials to support production schedules.
- Proficiently perform inventory transactions within ERP/WMS systems.
- Assist with cycle counts, inventory audits, and inventory discrepancy investigations.
- Proficiently load and unload inbound and outbound shipments.
- Monitor inventory organization and ensure materials are stored in correct locations.
- Assist in training less experienced material handlers on procedures and best practices.
- Troubleshoot routine inventory and material flow issues.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of warehouse workflow and operational priorities.
- Support shipping, receiving, and production teams to maintain operational efficiency.
Level 3 – Advanced Material Handling & Leadership
- All Level 2 requirements.
- Lead daily material handling activities and coordinate workflow within assigned areas.
- Assist supervisors with assigning tasks and monitoring completion of operational priorities.
- Mentor and train material handlers on safety, inventory accuracy, equipment operation, and system processes.
- Assist with inventory investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Support implementation of process improvements related to warehouse organization and material flow.
- Monitor staging areas, inventory locations, and workflow efficiency to minimize downtime.
- Communicate operational concerns, shortages, and priorities effectively with leadership and production teams.
- Promote accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and safe work practices throughout the department.
- Serve as a role model for safety, quality, attendance, and operational performance.
Additional Responsibilities / Lead Material Handler
- Ensure compliance with all Company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training sessions.
- Assist with maintaining inventory accuracy and warehouse housekeeping standards.
- Support annual physical inventory activities and inventory reconciliation efforts.
- Assist leadership with continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiency projects.
- Complete required documentation, reports, and system transactions accurately and timely.
