Job Title: Temporary Works Co-Ordinator
Reporting to: Project Manager
Role purpose
The Transmission & Distribution Sector is currently thriving as the Government looks to ensure that the infrastructure is in place to take advantage of the growth in the Renewable Energy Sector.
The TWC role will play a pivotal role in safe delivery of both projects.
Working as part of the construction team on both projects is anticipated that the role can be conducted on a hybrid basis although travel will be required for both projects on a regular basis. It is anticipated that there may be some requirement for overnight stays at site.
They will assist the Construction Manager to ensure that all Temporary Works are undertaken safely and in line with both SSE and legal requirements.
The postholder will have the authority to stop work if they feel that the work is unsafe or not authorized.
This is an ideal opportunity to work on a large prestige project for a Tier 1 Contractor with a visible path of progression. Omexom encourage and support their staff to develop and maximize their potential.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Develop, Implement and maintain Temporary Works procedures,
- Maintain Temporary Works registers,
- Coordinate Temporary Works design, checking and inspections,
- Plan , monitor and approve lifting operations and lift plans
- Brief lifting teams and stopping unsafe activities.
- Review Temporary Works Designs and ensure compliance with implementation and/or construction and dismantling
- Stop any unsafe work and ensure compliance
- Co-ordinate all temporary works activities
- Ensure a temporary works register is established and maintained.
- Ensure that the various responsibilities have been allocated and accepted
- Ensure that a design brief is prepared with full consultation, is adequate and is in accordance with the actual situation on site.
- Ensure that any residual risks, identified at the design stage, assumed methods of construction, or loading constraints identified by the designer of the permanent works are included within the design brief
- Ensure that a satisfactory temporary works design is carried out
- Ensure that a design check is carried out by someone who was not involved in the original design; this should include:
Concept
Structural adequacy
Compliance with the brief
- Where appropriate, ensure that the design is made available to other interested parties e.g. the CDM-C or the designer of the permanent works
- Register or record the drawings calculations and other relevant documents relating to the final design
- Ensure that those responsible for on-site supervision receive full details of the design, including any limitations and guidance notes associated with it and prepare a specific method statement
- Ensure that checks are made at appropriate stages
- Ensure that any proposed changes in materials or construction are checked against the original design and appropriate action taken.
- Ensure that any agreed changes, or correction of faults, are correctly carried out on site.
- Ensure that during the use of temporary works all appropriate maintenance is carried out.
- After a final check which is satisfactory, ensure a permit to load (bring into use) is issued by either the TWC or TWS, issue formal permission to load/bring into use
- When it has been confirmed that the permanent structure has gained adequate strength and/or stability, ensure a permit to unload (take out of use) the temporary work is issued by either the TWC or TWS.
- Ensure that a documented safe system of work is in place and implemented for the dismantling of any temporary work;
- Ensure that any relevant information for the health and safety file is transmitted to the CDM coordinator;
- In all cases, ensure that the TWSs are operating in accordance with the approved procedures.

Person Specification
Qualifications and experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience on major construction projects, infrastructure, utilities, HV or substation projects.
Ideally Professional Qualify Engineer or HND/NVQ 4/SCQF L7-10.
· CITB TWC,
· SMSTS,
· CSCS
· Full UK Driving License
