The posting

Location: South Africa (Fully Remote) Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Working Hours: UK Business Hours Start Date: ASAP Industry: Renewable Energy | Solar PV | Battery Storage | EV Charging

About the Opportunity

We are recruiting an experienced Solar PV Design & Proposal Specialist to join a growing UK-based renewable energy business specialising in solar PV installations, battery storage systems and electric vehicle charging solutions.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised, technically skilled and proactive individual with extensive experience using OpenSolar to produce accurate, professional and commercially competitive solar PV proposals.

The business is experiencing significant growth and requires someone who can manage a high volume of customer enquiries, deliver quality proposals efficiently and contribute to the continued development of its design and customer operations.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Solar PV Design & Proposal Development

  • Design residential and commercial solar PV systems using OpenSolar.
  • Produce approximately 7–8 high-quality solar PV proposals per day within a 7.5-hour working shift.
  • Prepare detailed system layouts, equipment specifications, energy generation estimates and customer proposals.
  • Ensure designs are technically accurate, commercially viable and aligned with customer requirements.
  • Manage a high volume of incoming enquiries while maintaining quality and turnaround times.
  • Review site information, energy consumption data and customer requirements to develop suitable solar solutions.
  • Recommend appropriate solar PV, battery storage and related renewable energy solutions.

Customer & Stakeholder Communication

  • Communicate professionally with customers and internal stakeholders regarding designs, proposals and project requirements.
  • Clarify technical specifications and gather additional information where required.
  • Respond proactively to customer enquiries and proposal amendments.
  • Work closely with sales, installation and operations teams to ensure proposals are accurate and deliverable.
  • Provide clear explanations of proposed systems and their benefits.

Workflow & Operational Support

  • Manage multiple proposals simultaneously while meeting daily productivity targets.
  • Prioritise urgent enquiries and maintain an organised proposal pipeline.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, proposal quality and turnaround times.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and work independently in a remote environment.
  • Support wider customer service and operational activities as the role develops.

Essential Requirements

  • 4–5 years of hands-on experience using OpenSolar, with strong proficiency in solar PV system design and proposal generation.
  • Proven ability to produce approximately 7–8 complete, high-quality proposals per working day.
  • Strong understanding of solar PV system design, equipment selection, system sizing and energy generation calculations.
  • Previous experience preparing customer-facing solar proposals, quotations and technical documentation.
  • Experience managing high volumes of proposals within tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Confidence communicating directly with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities and take initiative.
  • Comfortable working UK business hours from South Africa.
  • Reliable internet connectivity and a suitable remote working environment.

Please note: Practical OpenSolar experience is essential. Candidates with experience limited to PVsyst, AutoCAD or other design software, without substantial OpenSolar proposal experience, will not meet the core requirements.

Advantageous Experience

  • Previous experience working with UK solar PV installers or renewable energy companies.
  • Knowledge of UK solar PV regulations, installation standards and industry requirements.
  • Familiarity with MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) standards.
  • Understanding of DNO (Distribution Network Operator) requirements and grid connection processes.
  • Experience designing battery storage and EV charging solutions.
  • Experience supporting solar sales teams and handling customer enquiries.
  • Exposure to renewable energy project coordination or operational support.

Key Performance Expectations

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Consistently deliver approximately 8 accurate and professional proposals per 7.5-hour shift.
  • Maintain high standards of design quality and customer service.
  • Demonstrate strong productivity without compromising technical accuracy.
  • Manage competing priorities and meet agreed turnaround times.
  • Work proactively with minimal supervision.
  • Contribute to clearing an existing proposal backlog and improving ongoing workflow efficiency.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for a motivated, solutions-oriented professional who combines strong technical OpenSolar expertise with excellent productivity and customer communication skills.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, taking ownership of their workload and delivering results consistently.

A positive attitude, initiative, adaptability and willingness to support broader business operations will be essential for long-term success.

Recruitment Process

Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete:

  1. An initial recruitment screening interview.
  2. A short, timed OpenSolar design and proposal assessment.
  3. A professional video introduction.
  4. A client interview, including a practical proposal exercise.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
