The Maintenance Lead is the hands-on night-shift maintenance lead for Gray Court shredding and AEF operations. The role directs assigned maintenance work, responds to equipment failures, completes preventive maintenance, troubleshoots mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, basic electrical, and control-related issues, and verifies equipment is safe before return to service. The position protects uptime through accurate work orders, root-cause follow-up, parts planning, shift handoffs, and strict energy-control, hot-work, guarding, and fire-prevention practices.
Job Duties:
1. Lead night-shift maintenance priorities and direct assigned technicians and contractors.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain shredders, conveyors, hydraulic systems, motors, gearboxes, bearings, guards, and related plant equipment.
- Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and document inspections, repairs, parts used, testing, and equipment status.
- Respond to shutdowns, secure failed equipment, determine the safest repair plan, and communicate production impact.
- Apply lockout and tagout and verify zero energy before repair, cleaning, adjustment, unjamming, or component removal.
- Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, grinding, and approved oxylance work only when trained, authorized, and protected by required hot-work and fire controls.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, basic electrical, and control-related faults using alarms, error codes, manuals, schematics, and test equipment.
- Perform electrical work only within documented qualification. Escalate energized, high-voltage, safety-circuit, interlock, and advanced control-system work.
- Verify guards, covers, emergency stops, alarms, control response, and operating condition before returning equipment to Operations.
- Record downtime and use root-cause methods to address recurring failures instead of repeated temporary repairs.
- Maintain critical-parts visibility, identify parts needs early, and verify replacement parts before installation.
- Provide complete shift handoffs covering open work, equipment restrictions, temporary conditions, parts needs, and follow-up actions.
- Support forklifts, loaders, facility systems, housekeeping, and operating needs when trained, authorized, and higher-priority maintenance work is controlled.
- Stop work and remove equipment from service when energy controls, guards, fire protection, repair quality, or operating conditions are not acceptable.
- Perform other related duties within assigned training, qualification, authorization, and safe-work requirements.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years’ experience of maintenance background
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- Must be willing to work flexible hours/shifts to support business needs (may include occasional weekends or holidays)
