The posting

The Legal Counsel provides practical legal support on legal, regulatory and commercial matters. The role independently reviews, advises on and negotiates contracts on standard terms and third-party terms in line with playbooks, with escalation of complex, novel or high-risk issues to Senior Legal Counsel or the Head of Legal. 

What you’ll be doing day-to-day

Provide timely advice on straightforward legal and regulatory issues, applying playbooks, precedent positions and risk guidance Review, advise on and negotiate customer, supplier and operational contracts on standard and third-party terms independently within agreed boundaries Identify non-standard or higher-risk positions and escalate with clear options, recommendations and impact assessment Partner with sales, commercial, operational, finance and delivery teams to support transactions and business objectives Create or update guidance notes, clause positions, checklists and FAQs for recurring legal issues Manage allocated matters from intake to completion, including status updates, document control and closing actions. 

What you’ll bring to this role  

Qualified lawyer with 2-5 years PQE, preferably including in-house or commercial contracting experience Ability to work independently but know when to escalate Strong drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills Strong commercial judgement and practical risk-based advice Strong communication skills including across a varied stakeholder group Organised approach to matter management and competing priorities Comfort with legal workflow, CRM and document management systems Ability to adapt to new and complex areas of law and regulation Ability to learn quickly.
