This role combines engineering, customer-facing field work, and cross-functional project coordination. You will be responsible for delivering customized optical and laser-based measurement systems, from concept through installation and commissioning.

This position is suited for an engineer who is comfortable working in industrial environments, engaging directly with customers, and managing multiple technical projects simultaneously. The role is based in the GTA, with international travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end execution of customer projects, including scope definition, planning, coordination, and delivery
  • Participate in order review meetings to confirm technical requirements and develop project work orders
  • Develop installation drawing packages, including mechanical layouts, wiring diagrams, and system interconnections
  • Configure and adapt optical and instrumentation systems to meet customer-specific applications
  • Support system integration activities including setup, calibration, testing, and validation
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), including documentation and customer sign-off
  • Install, commission, and service systems at customer sites globally
  • Provide technical training and ongoing support to customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to instrumentation, automation, and control systems in industrial environments
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and product teams to support design improvements and custom solutions
  • Develop and document custom communication protocols and system interfaces
  • Monitor project timelines, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Maintain detailed project documentation, commissioning reports, and engineering change records (ECNs)
  • Support continuous improvement through feedback on product performance and field experience

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering preferred; relevant technologist or technician diploma with strong experience will be considered
  • 3-7 years of experience in industrial environments (manufacturing, steel mills, automation, or similar), including commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Strong hands-on experience with industrial instrumentation, sensors, and automation systems
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, drives, encoders, and process control systems
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet TCP/IP, Modbus, Profibus, Profinet)
  • Familiarity with industrial networks, including managed switches, fiber optics, and network configuration
  • Experience with SCADA systems, data acquisition tools, and industrial databases is an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Practical experience with system integration, calibration, and validation processes
  • Exposure to HMI systems, vision systems, lasers, and motion control (servo/stepper motors) preferred
  • Proficiency with engineering and project tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Project, and ERP/PDM systems
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage timelines and competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
  • High attention to detail, with strong organizational and problem-solving capabilities
  • Valid G-class driver’s license
  • Ability to travel internationally as required
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

NICE to have:

  • Professional designation or progress toward certification (P.Eng., EIT, OACETT, PMP)
  • Experience working with large OEMs or suppliers in heavy industry environments
  • Background in steel processing or similar high-temperature, continuous production environments

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
