Job Description

As a Solution Engineer based in Tokyo, Japan, reporting directly to the APAC Head of Customer Project Management, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering Vusion’s retail technology solutions in Japan, helping leading retailers accelerate their digital transformation and build more connected, data-driven stores. Acting as a trusted technical advisor to our delivery partners and customers, you will help translate business needs into practical solutions, guide partners through complex technical questions, and contribute from pre-sales through implementation.

This customer-facing role combines solution design, hands-on product expertise, partner enablement, and cross-functional collaboration with teams in Japan and globally.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Pre-sales Activities

  • Conduct solution demonstrations and tours of our Customer Experience Center (CEC) for prospective customers.
  • Work with the Experience team to install and maintain demonstrations in the CEC.
  • Support RFP submissions and customer presentations.
  • Shape technical proposals and solution approaches with internal and partner sales teams.
  • Support tradeshows and industry events, including technical setup of demonstrations and engagement with prospective customers and partners at the booth.

2. Partner Enablement & Solution Design

  • Own the technical relationship with delivery partners and support their onboarding and training.
  • Understand customer business objectives, technical environments, operational needs, constraints, and use cases.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into solution designs.
  • Work with global Product and Engineering teams to resolve technical questions, advise on solution options, and communicate partner and customer feedback, including Japan-specific market needs.
  • Maintain hands-on expertise with Vusion hardware and solution components through lab setup, testing, demonstrations, and troubleshooting.

3. Implementation & Project Delivery

  • Drive technical coordination throughout implementation and support successful partner-led project delivery.
  • Validate site surveys, fixture assessments, and deployment plans, and advise partners on implementation approaches.
  • Support partner-led installations and participate in selected onsite activities.
  • Support technical validation, fixture testing, UAT, and solution sign-off.
  • Track project progress, actions, and dependencies using internal project management tools, and keep relevant stakeholders updated.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including localization of technical materials for the Japan market.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in solution engineering, technical consulting, or a similar customer-facing technical role, ideally within SaaS, IoT, retail technology, or a related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across different functions, technical backgrounds, and levels of seniority in a global team environment.
  • Native or fluent Japanese and business-level English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, CSV/JSON data specifications, and basic networking concepts such as access points and firewall rules.
  • Basic JavaScript knowledge for configuration or rule logic.
  • Hands-on experience with installations, fixture testing, or hardware validation.
  • Exposure to retail technology, IoT devices, ESLs, digital signage, computer vision, data analytics, or in-store infrastructure.
  • Experience working with Tier 1 or enterprise customers.
  • Ability to read hardware drawings, fixture layouts, and installation guides.
  • Comfortable working within test labs, back-of-house areas, and active retail environments.

Additional Information

Hybrid working environment, with regular collaboration in the Tokyo office for demonstrations, hardware testing, partner training, and team activities.

Occasional travel within Japan for customer visits, partner support, deployments, and industry events.
