The posting

About the Role:

The EHS Manager leads environmental, health, and safety performance at the facility, with primary ownership of environmental compliance and the ISO 14001 environmental management system. This is a leadership role. You will build and develop the EHS team, partner with plant leadership to make EHS part of daily operations and serve as the site’s main contact with regulatory agencies.

Environmental Responsibilities:

  • Own the facility’s environmental compliance program, including air permit, storm water, wastewater, and regulated waste.
  • Maintain all environmental permits and registrations, and lead permit applications, renewals, and modifications as processes change.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation and submittal of required agency reports (e.g., air emissions, Tier II, TRI, discharge monitoring, and waste reports).
  • Lead site level elements of the ISO14001-conformant environmental management system, including aspects and impacts, objectives, internal audits, and management review.
  • Manage environmental sampling, inspections, and audits, and close gaps with documented corrective actions.
  • Manage compliant disposal and/or recycling of regulated waste (e.g., hazardous and universal waste, used oil, etc.)
  • Ensure administration of regulatory-required environmental training.
  • Verify hazardous chemicals are handled, stored, and disposed of according to regulations.
  • Act as the site’s primary contact during agency inspections and audits.
  • Lead response to environmental incidents (e.g., spills, permit deviations, etc.)
  • Drive environmental improvement projects to reduce compliance risk, such as waste reduction, emissions reduction, and hazardous chemical substitution.

Safety & Health Responsibilities:

  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company EHS requirements.
  • Manage the incident investigation process, including root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions to prevent repeat incidents.
  • Analyze injury and risk trends, and set priorities with operations leadership.
  • Make sure all required EHS training is completed and documented.
  • Support workers’ compensation case management and return-to-work processes.
  • Oversee site security, including facility access control, visitor and contractor check-in, and security camera and alarm systems.
  • Lead workplace violence prevention and security-related emergency planning, and coordinate with local law enforcement and first responders.
  • Work with the site’s third-party security service provider to investigate security incidents, document findings, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Partner with site leadership to assess and improve site surveillance and physical security.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and develop EHS specialists and technicians, and build a bench of future talent.
  • Partner with plant leadership to set EHS goals and hold the organization accountable for results.
  • Build a culture where employees at every level own safety and environmental performance.
  • Lead and influence change, communicate clearly at all levels, and model the Wabash Leadership Attributes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Safety, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, including at least 3 years with direct ownership of environmental permits and agency reporting.
  • Proven experience with EPA regulations (Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, EPCRA) and corresponding state programs.
  • Experience leading or supporting an ISO 14001 environmental management system.
  • Solid working knowledge of OSHA general industry standards.
  • 1+ years supervising or leading people, with demonstrated success developing a team.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with plant leadership, employees, and regulators.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

  • CHMM, QEP, CSP, or ASP certification.
  • ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification.
  • Experience with paint/coating operations or metal fabrication.

Leadership Attributes:

At Wabash, we pride ourselves on being empowering, and there are some things we feel very strongly about:

  • Be Authentic – Demonstrate honesty, incredible energy, and grit in everything you do.
  • Win Together – Collaborate, seek alignment, and excel at cross-group communication to succeed as one team and One Wabash.

Working Conditions:

This role operates in both a manufacturing and office environment, and on-site presence is required. The employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and loud noise. Strict adherence to corporate and plant EHS policies is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
