Building Services Student Engineer (Mechanical & Electrical):
As a Student Engineer, you will assist the Building Services Engineer in ensuring that all building services are properly coordinated with other construction activities—from specification and procurement through to installation, testing, and commissioning—across a variety of commercial, industrial, educational, and healthcare projects.
What are Building Services? Building services include plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning (AC), electrical systems, security, fire protection, sprinkler systems, lifts, and more.
As a Student Engineer, you will work under the supervision of a Building Services Engineer in a site-based role. The Building Services Engineer is part of a wider site team that manages the construction or fit-out of a project from start to finish. Site teams typically range from 10 to 40 people, depending on the size and complexity of the project.
Main Responsibilities of a Building Services Engineer
- Installation & Coordination: Assist with monitoring the installation, testing, and commissioning of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), plumbing, electrical, fire protection, data, security, and lift systems. Ensure these systems are coordinated with architectural and structural elements. (This role requires strong problem-solving and communication skills.)
- Project Support: Work on-site to support construction teams, ensuring that mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems are installed correctly and meet project specifications. (Familiarity with standards and attention to detail are essential.)
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate records, ensure compliance with building regulations, and liaise with utility providers to ensure timely service delivery.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with design teams, subcontractors, and utility providers to support smooth project execution. Assist in resolving issues as they arise.
- Testing & Commissioning: Support the site team in ensuring that systems are properly tested, commissioned, and verified to meet standards, client requirements, and building regulations. Address and close out any snags or issues and ensure retesting is completed as necessary. Also includes verification of "as-built" drawings and test records.
- Handover: Assist with client demonstrations, end-user training, and system handover documentation.
