What you'll do...
Role summary:
This is a hands-on Senior Manager, Software Engineering role - think Principal/Senior Staff Engineer who also grows a small team. You'll spend roughly 70% of your time in the architecture and the code: designing scalable distributed systems, reviewing pull requests, debugging production issues, and setting the technical bar. The other 30% is managing and mentoring a team of 3-6 engineers. This is not a people-only management role; you lead by doing and go deep technically. Expect a technical interview loop that includes system design and live coding. About the team:
Powerful entertainment experiences come from brilliant teams. The Content Services team builds the core services that power how people interact with the VIZIO OS platform - the connective tissue behind millions of everyday moments on our SmartTVs. We design, build, and operate scalable, reliable, always-on software, shipped through iterative development and continuous integration. In a collaborative, open-door environment, engineers own meaningful problems end to end - from architecture and platform design to product strategy and applied generative AI - staying hands-on and delivery-focused to turn business and technical goals into real outcomes. What you'll do:
• Lead the design of modular, scalable, highly available backend services, balancing reliability, security, performance, and cost. • Stay hands-on - author and review code in .NET/C#, set standards, and mentor engineers through design and implementation. • Architect and operate distributed systems on AWS using Terraform, Docker, and container orchestration (Kubernetes/ECS). • Own data design across relational (Postgres, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch) stores. • Drive testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and defect resolution to keep services healthy. • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of 3-6 engineers. What you'll bring:
• Expert .NET/C# experience with the ability to troubleshoot, debug, and performance-tune production code. • Demonstrable experience building and supporting reliable, always-on backend services. • Strong background in scalable distributed systems and object-oriented design. • Hands-on experience with AWS, Terraform/IaC, Docker, and container orchestration (Kubernetes/ECS). • Experience with relational (Postgres, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch) databases. • Solid grasp of CI/CD, DevOps, and cloud cost efficiency; exposure to generative AI/ML a plus. • Proven experience leading and mentoring engineers while staying technically hands-on.
