Role summary: Join Walmart as a Staff Data Engineer and leverage your expertise in data architecture, pipeline development, and data governance to deliver scalable, high-quality data solutions. This role involves translating complex business requirements into effective data strategies, ensuring data integrity, and enabling actionable insights across multiple domains. You will design and implement robust data models and infrastructure while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support enterprise-wide data initiatives. Your contributions will drive innovation and operational excellence by optimizing data processes and supporting regulatory compliance within a dynamic, technology-driven environment. About the team: The Data Lake Platform team at VIZIO/Walmart delivers dependable datasets that support enterprise analytics and strategic decision-making. Operating at the intersection of data and AI, the team innovates to address complex challenges by designing and maintaining scalable data architectures, pipelines, and governance frameworks. Team members ensure data quality and accessibility while applying advanced data engineering and machine learning techniques. With a methodical approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement, the team empowers the organization by providing actionable insights and strategic data solutions that drive business value. What you'll do:

  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures to support business analytics and reporting needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective data solutions aligned with strategic goals.
  • Implement data governance practices ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Design and optimize data models for various platforms including data lakes and distributed data stores.
  • Automate data integration and transformation processes using modern tools and orchestration frameworks.
  • Monitor data quality and provide guidance to ensure accuracy and reliability of data assets.
  • Support continuous improvement by evaluating emerging data technologies and methodologies.

What you'll bring:

  • Proven expertise in data engineering, including building and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling, data lakes, distributed data stores, and data architecture principles.
  • Experience with PySpark, Databricks, Apache Airflow, and CI/CD pipelines for automated data workflows.
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality frameworks, and regulatory requirements related to data privacy and security.
  • Ability to translate complex business requirements into technical solutions aligned with data strategy.
  • Proficiency in cloud and big data environments, with a focus on optimizing data integration and transformation processes.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. The annual salary range for this position is $121,000.00 - $242,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related field. Option 2: 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related field. Option 3: Master's degree in Computer Science and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related field. 3 years' experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.

The ideal candidate would have knowledge of accessibility best practices and join us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.
