We're looking for a Senior Java Software Engineer to help design and evolve a modern platform supporting mission-critical Customs operations.

You'll work on complex distributed systems, solve challenging engineering problems, and influence technical decisions that impact real-world trade operations.

We value engineers who combine strong software engineering fundamentals, architectural thinking, and practical use of modern AI development tools to deliver reliable, maintainable software.

Our Tech Stack

Java 17+ (21 preferred), Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Elasticsearch, Amazon S3, Docker, Kubernetes, and AI coding assistants.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and modern distributed architectures.
  • Drive technical excellence through architectural discussions, design reviews, code reviews, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
  • Own solutions end-to-end, from technical design and implementation to testing, deployment, and production optimization.
  • Solve complex engineering challenges involving distributed messaging, data consistency, concurrency, performance, and system reliability.
  • Leverage AI coding assistants and agents to accelerate development, testing, debugging, and refactoring while ensuring correctness, security, and maintainability.
  • Mentor engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams in an international engineering environment.
  • Travel to our project offices when necessary.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong hands-on expertise in Java (17+) and Spring Boot.
  • Solid understanding of microservices, REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems principles.
  • Strong SQL and database skills, including schema design, query optimization, and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.
  • Good understanding of Java concurrency, JVM internals, performance optimization, secure coding, and modern software design principles.
  • Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, Gradle or Maven, containerization, and application observability.
  • Practical experience using AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code, Codex, or equivalent tools), with the ability to critically evaluate AI-generated solutions.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex production issues, make sound technical decisions, and mentor other engineers.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Availability and willingness to travel abroad when required is mandatory.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, or other caching and search technologies; Kubernetes, Helm, or GitOps.
  • Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Hands-on experience developing production AI-powered or agentic systems, including evaluation, guardrails, observability, and cost optimization.
  • Experience with Customs, international trade, taxation, or other government systems.
