Our investment solutions, tailored to the unique return and risk objectives of institutional clients in more than 60 countries, draw on a robust body of proprietary research and a collaborative culture that encourages independent thought and healthy debate. As a private partnership, we believe our ownership structure fosters a long-term view that aligns our perspectives with those of our clients.

About the Role

We are currently seeking a Consultant Relations Manager to join Wellington’s Global Consultant Relations team, with a focus on relationships in the Western region of the U.S. Within this sizable and important region, this individual will be responsible for developing and executing strategic engagement and growth plans with key firms across the institutional consultant and OCIO landscape. The role will focus on managing and expanding relationships with manager researchers, field consultants, and OCIO decision makers, strengthening awareness of Wellington Management’s investment expertise and building conviction in the firm’s range of traditional and alternative investment capabilities.

Engagement should be guided by a clear understanding of mutually beneficial outcomes and a demonstrated ability to identify and advance new growth opportunities. The position requires a strong understanding of the institutional consulting and OCIO landscape, including manager research processes, discretionary portfolio construction, vehicle types, and institutional client governance frameworks. The Consultant Relations Manager will cultivate partnerships with internal colleagues to develop and execute strategic business plans that support the firm’s sales, placement, and retention objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute strategic engagement and growth plans for priority consultant relationships, leading OCIO providers, and select OCIO search firms.
  • Serve as primary contact for key organizations with a presence in the Western region of the US, building multi-level relationships across research teams, field offices, OCIO teams, senior leadership, and other decision makers.
  • Contribute to building conviction in Wellington’s strategies; clearly articulate their differentiated outcomes, role in a portfolio, and implementation considerations.
  • Develop deep knowledge of each organization’s business strategy, client base, portfolio construction approach, decision-making process, and manager evaluation framework.
  • Operate collaboratively within a team-based coverage model, working alongside other Consultant Relations Managers and internal partners to cover complex organizations operating across channels and regions.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management, Product Management, Business Development, and Relationship Management colleagues to coordinate coverage and position Wellington’s traditional and alternative investment capabilities.
  • Activate negotiation and creative problem-solving skills to establish new pathways for growth with strategically important consultants and advisory businesses.
  • Lead strategy reviews, product introductions, platform approval processes, RFPs, finalist presentations, portfolio reviews, and other due-diligence activities.
  • Translate research support and strong relationships into tangible outcomes, including searches, platform placements, recommendations, new mandates, and client retention.
  • Provide structured market feedback and competitive intelligence to internal teams and represent Wellington through meetings, conferences, and targeted outreach.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 8-10 years of relevant industry experience, as well as significant technical acumen, including investment depth and understanding of investment concepts and strategies across asset classes.
  • Intellectual rigor and strong commercial judgment; gravitas and the ability to establish credibility and build trust with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex investment strategies into clear portfolio roles and use cases.
  • A highly collaborative operating style, combined with the ability to work independently and drive cross-functional execution.
  • An entrepreneurial, self-starting approach, balanced by depth of thought and sound judgment; a strong results-oriented mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities and advance initiatives to completion.
  • Highly organized and proactive, with strong project-management and time-management capabilities
  • A CFA, MBA, or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.
  • FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses (or the ability to obtain) in accordance with firm policy.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
