Special Needs Nanny (Autism & Behavioral Support) – Cary, NC
A welcoming family in Cary, NC 27513 is seeking a confident, patient, and experienced special needs nanny/caregiver to assist a wonderful 16-year-old young man (approx. 170 lbs) living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and developmental disabilities. He is largely non-verbal (responds to and answers simple questions/requests) and enjoys walks, grocery shopping, video games, arts & crafts, cooking, and playing games.
Due to his size and occasional behavioral challenges, we require a skilled caregiver who has strong experience with autism and feels fully confident supporting him safely and calmly through behaviors.
Schedule:
- Start Date: ASAP
- Days: Monday through Friday
- Hours: 2:00 PM – 5:30 PM (approx. 17.5 hours per week)
- Flexibility: Occasional evening and weekend flexibility requested
Family Specifications:
- Smoke free home
Responsibilities:
- Transportation & Outings: Drive the care recipient to and from school and accompany him to activities outside the home (walks, grocery store runs, outings).
- Engagement & Daily Care: Lead educational activities, arts & crafts, cooking, and engage in his favorite interests (board games and video games).
- Medication Support: Administer daily prescribed medication accurately and on schedule.
- Behavioral Support: Provide structured, calm, and proactive support during behavioral changes or tantrums.
Requirements:
- Proven background supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or developmental disabilities.
- Demonstrated physical confidence and behavioral management skill to handle tantrums safely.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable personal vehicle for transportation/errands.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Pay Rate: $26.00 – $30.00 per hour (commensurate with experience; open to discussion)
- Vehicle Expenses: Gas stipend / mileage reimbursement provided for driving during shift hours
