The School of Sciences & Humanities at Wentworth Institute of Technology seeks applications for a full-time Chemistry Lecturer. This is a teaching-focused position centered on undergraduate instruction and student success. The successful candidate will teach introductory and intermediate chemistry courses, including lecture and laboratory sections, in support of engineering, applied sciences, and related programs.

Wentworth is a teaching-focused polytechnic university serving a diverse, career-oriented student population. We are seeking a colleague with proven teaching competence and a strong record of working effectively with students in settings similar to ours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach 4 courses (16 credits) per semester, including lecture and laboratory sections
  • Deliver structured, engaging instruction in introductory and intermediate chemistry courses
  • Provide timely feedback, regular office hours, and strong support for student learning
  • Support laboratory instruction, preparation, and safety expectations
  • Collaborate with faculty on course coordination and curricular alignment

This is a teaching-focused position and does not include expectations for research or traditional service.

What We Are Looking For:

Proven teaching effectiveness. You have a sustained record of effective undergraduate chemistry teaching and can provide evidence of that effectiveness.

Relevant institutional experience. You have taught in an environment similar to Wentworth, including teaching-focused, polytechnic, access-oriented, or career-oriented institutions.

Lecture and laboratory competence. You have demonstrated success teaching both lecture and laboratory courses and can connect chemistry concepts to applied student needs.

Student-centered instruction. You can explain complex material clearly, support students with varied preparation levels, and create a structured and inclusive classroom environment.

Mission alignment. You value undergraduate teaching, applied learning, and the role of chemistry in a polytechnic education.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field, completed at time of application. ABD candidates will not be considered.
  • At least two years of experience teaching undergraduate chemistry.
  • Experience teaching at an institution serving a student population similar to Wentworth.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching both lecture and laboratory courses.
  • Evidence of effective teaching, such as student evaluations, peer observations, sample materials, or similar documentation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the time of hire. Wentworth does not sponsor work visas for this position.

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching introductory chemistry for engineering or applied science students
  • Experience supporting students with varied academic preparation
  • Use of structured, active, or applied teaching approaches
  • Experience coordinating multi-section or lab-based courses

Position Details:

The position includes a comprehensive benefits package and a competitive salary. Benefits are described briefly HR: https://wit.edu/careers/work-wentworth

It is expected that the salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $81,600. The low end of the pay range in all faculty searches is at the minimum salary for the rank per the collective bargaining agreement between Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Wentworth Faculty Federation, Local 2403, AFT MA, AFL-CIO (the “Faculty Federation” or “Federation”). The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on consideration of all relevant factors when and if it decides to extend an offer of employment. The range does not include any salary stipend from a named-professorship. Note that these are two-semester equivalent salaries.

This position comes with a 10% retirement contribution (no matching required) according to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Wentworth Faculty Federation.

Wentworth uses a three-semester per year schedule. The faculty contracts are for two semesters (fall and spring) with optional summer teaching, which is paid on a prorated basis of the provided two-semester salary.
