Wharton-Smith, Inc., a highly regarded General Contractor throughout the Southeast, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Project Superintendent I – Water/Wastewater. We are currently seeking someone who is willing to work in our corporate office in Sanford, FL.   GENERAL DESCRIPTION:   The Project Superintendent I is responsible for supervising all field operations for assigned projects and providing overall leadership for onsite field administration, supervision, and technical management of all construction activities. This role oversees assistants, foremen, subcontractors, field staff, and other construction-related personnel to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.   The Project Superintendent I serves as a key leader on the project team and is responsible for driving project execution, maintaining client relationships, coordinating field resources, and ensuring company standards for safety, quality, and productivity are achieved.   RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Project Management & Field Operations:

Maintain quality control throughout all phases of construction. Maintain a safe and organized workplace. Conduct pre-task meetings with subcontractors. Coordinate permit and inspection processes. Oversee project setup and temporary facilities, including site utilization plans. Manage field document control and project documentation. Complete and review daily reports and progress photographs. Supervise material handling activities, including receiving, inventory, storage, and spare parts logs. Coordinate subcontractor activities and conduct subcontractor meetings. Manage and maintain as-built drawings on a weekly basis. Participate in Project Job Reviews (PJR). Process field purchases and maintain the Field Purchase Order (FPO) log. Maintain positive client and Resident Project Representative (RPR) relationships. Perform project progress reviews, completion inspections, and punch list walkthroughs. Review scopes of work within contracts and identify potential gaps or conflicts. Identify new work opportunities and potential projects with current clients. Participate in writing scopes of work. Manage weekly HH2 timesheets and field documentation. Conduct craft worker evaluations and staffing adjustments. Participate in pre-job planning meetings. Lead project scheduling activities and schedule updates. Assist with creating and maintaining baseline schedules. Identify manpower requirements and ensure projects are properly staffed. Identify equipment needs and maintain equipment rental logs. Monitor project equipment usage and maintain budget accountability. Manage SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan) compliance. Lead project closeout activities. Manage and verify project layout activities. Manage and maintain all concrete pour logs. Maintain tool inventory logs. Manage project budgets and cost awareness in the field. Encourage foreman and craft worker training and advancement within the company. Review project submittals and field coordination documents. Identify and communicate all scope changes to the Project Manager. Participate in presentations and proposal preparation. Participate in constructability reviews. Develop, mentor, and support employees within the company. Assist HR/Recruiting with staffing needs on project. Mentoring/Development and Succession Planning.

 

Production Planning System:

Maintain labor budgets and manpower tracking. Lead shift meetings with subcontractors and field staff. Conduct weekly team meetings. Maintain and update weekly production boards. Develop and manage production plans to support project goals and schedules.

 

Safety Responsibilities:

Schedule Competent Person training and other required safety training. Conduct daily jobsite inspections. Coordinate new hire safety orientations. Assign and review Safety Task Analyses (STA’s) completed by foremen. Lead by example by following all company safety policies and procedures. Conduct weekly safety meetings. Set up and maintain SDS books for each project. Promote and maintain a zero-accident culture. Manage accident Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Ensure subcontractor compliance with onsite safety requirements. Participate in safety inspections with the Safety Business Unit.

  QUALIFICATIONS:  

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or construction-related education preferred. Minimum of 12 years of construction-related, construction management, or construction engineering experience, with demonstrated success completing multimillion-dollar projects. Proven leadership and supervisory experience managing field personnel, project priorities, productivity, quality, and overall project execution. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with Project Managers, General Superintendents, clients, subcontractors, inspectors, vendors, and field personnel. Demonstrated ability to coordinate project resources, manpower, schedules, field issues, and execution requirements. Current Competent Person training and certifications in:

Trenching and excavation Scaffolding Rigging Confined space Fall protection

Current OSHA 30-Hour certification required. Current First Aid & CPR certification required. Required training in Silica Safety, Risk Management, and Accident Investigation. Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office products. Ability to manage multiple priorities and effectively lead field teams in an active construction environment. Ability to work safely and effectively on active project job sites under varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, rain, noise, and dust. Ability to work flexible and extended hours as needed, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and operating equipment controls. Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds and safely handle heavy or bulky materials. Ability to communicate clearly, follow written and verbal instructions, recognize safety warnings and alarms, and maintain balance and coordination on uneven surfaces, ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and similar structures. Ability and willingness to travel occasionally throughout Wharton-Smith territories. Must be available to work full-time in an exempt position, generally Monday through Friday, with additional hours as required by project needs.
