Through cutting-edge technology, research, and data-driven insights, we help members unlock their potential and achieve their goals.

WHOOP is seeking a Product Counsel to serve as a primary legal partner to our product development and R&D organizations. In this highly collaborative role, you will work closely with teams across Product, Software Engineering, Data Science, Signal Processing, Research, Security, and Marketing to help bring innovative technologies and features to market. You will provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance across the product development lifecycle, enabling teams to innovate responsibly, navigate complex legal and regulatory questions, and protect the technology and intellectual property that differentiate WHOOP.

The ideal candidate combines excellent legal judgment and strong contract drafting skills with intellectual curiosity, a collaborative mindset, and a genuine enthusiasm for human performance, technology and innovation. You are a creative problem solver who can translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable advice, balancing risk management with the need to move quickly in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Serve as a primary legal advisor to the WHOOP product development and R&D organizations, providing proactive, practical counsel on legal, regulatory, and commercial matters throughout the product development lifecycle.

- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial and technology agreements, including SaaS and software licensing agreements, technology procurement agreements, research and development agreements, data sharing agreements, and academic or commercial research collaborations.

- Partner with Data Science, Signal Processing, and Research teams to structure and support research initiatives, scientific collaborations, and emerging technology development, addressing contractual, intellectual property, data use, and compliance considerations.

- Advise Product and Software Engineering teams on legal issues associated with new products, features, technologies, and third-party tools, including intellectual property, licensing, confidentiality, and applicable regulatory requirements.

- Collaborate with Information Security, Privacy, and Engineering teams to support the implementation of contractual security obligations, appropriate data protection practices, and compliance requirements in vendor relationships and product development activities.

- Partner with Marketing, Research, and Product teams to review product claims and related marketing communications, advise on appropriate scientific substantiation, and support the responsible communication of product capabilities and benefits.

- Develop and communicate practical guidance on confidentiality, trade secret protection, intellectual property ownership, and information-sharing practices to help safeguard WHOOP technology, research, and proprietary information.

- Identify emerging legal risks and opportunities associated with new technologies, including AI and machine learning, and work cross-functionally to develop scalable, commercially reasonable solutions that support innovation and business objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.

- 5+ years of legal experience, including significant experience at a major law firm advising technology, life sciences, consumer technology, or similarly innovative companies.

- Significant experience drafting, negotiating, and advising on complex commercial and technology agreements, with a demonstrated ability to independently manage transactions and deliver practical, business-oriented solutions.

- Exceptional legal judgment, analytical skills, and creative problem-solving ability, including the ability to assess risk, navigate ambiguity, and develop thoughtful solutions to novel legal challenges.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for technical and non-legal stakeholders.

- Strong client-service orientation and demonstrated ability to build trusted, collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams, balancing legal considerations with commercial priorities and business objectives.

- Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies, with the ability to quickly develop an understanding of complex technical and scientific concepts. Experience advising on software, data, intellectual property, research collaborations, or technology product development is particularly valuable.

- Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
