The posting

The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a Community Management Associate to engage online communities, help refine our brand voice, and build a vibrant, Gen Z-focused social media presence for Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation.

Sitting on the Social Team within External Communications, you will bring energy and creativity to how we show up across platforms. From writing engaging comment copy and jumping on real-time cultural moments to surfacing stories from our global volunteer community, you will help connect Wikipedia with next-generation internet audiences.

This is a fast-moving, hands-on role perfect for someone who lives on social media, loves online culture, and is eager to test and learn. Preferred working time zones are UTC -8 to UTC -5 (Mexico, Columbia, Canada and United States)

Ideally You Are:

  • A Digital Culture Native: Plugged into emerging trends and short-form video culture (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts) with a natural feel for Gen Z engagement.
  • A Strong Communicator: Experienced in writing social comment copy and adapting brand tone across different platforms.
  • An Organized Framework Builder: Eager to help draft clear community playbooks, response protocols, and engagement guidelines.
  • A Community Connector: Excited to interact directly with followers and surface stories from our global volunteer network.
  • A Data-Aware Learner: Comfortable reviewing basic analytics and social listening insights to refine engagement tactics.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement & Copywriting

  • Assist in writing daily social copy, managing comment sections, and executing reactive engagement on trending moments.
  • Support the development and documentation of community management playbooks and brand tone-of-voice guidelines.
  • Help identify, surface, and share inspiring stories from Wikipedia’s global volunteer community.

Trends & Growth

  • Track short-form video trends, platform updates, and emerging formats to recommend fresh engagement opportunities.
  • Support testing of social listening and moderation tools to improve community response time.

Tracking & Operations

  • Monitor channel activity, track audience sentiment, and assist with monthly performance reporting.
  • Participate in creative experimentation to see which copy and engagement styles resonate best.

Skills & Experience

  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience in social media execution, community management, or digital storytelling.
  • Short-Form Native: Active familiarity with TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Writing & Moderation: Experience writing social copy, engaging in comment sections, or moderating online channels.
  • Basic Tool Familiarity: Exposure to social management, analytics, or listening tools.
  • Good Judgment: High emotional intelligence to navigate sensitive comments and know when to escalate risks.
  • Global Mindset: Awareness of cross-cultural nuances and working with diverse global audiences.

Qualities That Matter to Us

  • Passion for the Wikimedia mission and free knowledge.
  • Flexibility working with distributed teams across time zones.
  • A collaborative spirit, curiosity, and a real love for internet culture.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.
