About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Deputy Editor with a PhD and research expertise in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, or biocatalysis to join our in-house editorial team across Chemistry – A European Journal and ChemBioChem.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the strategic development and editorial direction of two established chemistry journals, with a particular focus on medicinal chemistry, chemical biology and related research. You will play a key role in ensuring the quality, integrity and impact of published content, while working closely with authors, reviewers and fellow editors.

This position is a fixed-term parental leave cover, with an anticipated end date of 25 January 2028.

How you will make an impact:

  • Identify emerging research trends in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology and biocatalysis, and commission high-impact content.
  • Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief and editorial board to shape journal strategy, scope and development.
  • Represent Chemistry – A European Journal and ChemBioChem at scientific conferences and within the international research community.
  • Contribute to initiatives that promote sound science, transparency and ethical publishing practices.
  • Manage the peer review process for submitted manuscripts, ensuring timely and rigorous evaluation.
  • Make editorial decisions and provide constructive feedback to authors.

We are looking for people who have/are:

  • A PhD in Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biocatalysis or a closely related discipline, with a research focus in one or more of these areas, is a strict requirement.
  • A strong publication record and understanding of the research landscape in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology or biocatalysis.
  • Prior editorial experience (e.g. as a reviewer, guest editor or editorial board member) and an understanding of Open Access workflows and Open Research is highly desirable, but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with an interest in scientific publishing and a commitment to editorial excellence.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
