Job Title: Airport Security Coordinator Reports to: Director, Security and Public Safety Type: Permanent, Full-Time Closing Date: October 19, 2026 The Opportunity Reporting to the Director, Security and Public Safety, the Airport Security Coordinator performs a variety of operational and administrative duties to support a safe, secure, and efficient airport operation. The role supports compliance with applicable acts, laws, regulations, measures, and directives relating to civil aviation security and operations. The Airport Security Coordinator provides administrative support for security programs, maintains accurate records and procedures, and assists with the administration of core airport security systems. Working with internal departments, airport stakeholders, and regulatory and enforcement agencies, the role supports security audits, investigations, training, and activities related to the prevention and mitigation of potential security threats. Accuracy, sound judgment, and discretion are essential to this position. Responsibilities include:
Provide administrative support for airport security programs and activities Develop and maintain procedures, work instructions, and processes for Security and Pass Office operations Enter, update, validate, and maintain security records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and document quality control Prepare and maintain departmental regulatory reports and related documentation Assist with security investigations by compiling data, records, and notes Support security audits, including maintaining records of findings and corrective actions Assist with the administration of the Airport Access Control System, Restricted Area Pass and Clearance Program, Key Control System, CCTV, and other electronic security equipment Support the ongoing functionality and appropriate maintenance of security systems and equipment Provide training to staff and external security contractors on the operation and maintenance of security equipment Assist with the administration of security training related to regulatory programs and initiatives Respond to and provide assistance during critical security-related incidents Participate in planning and delivering security exercises and ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory exercise requirements Assist with developing and delivering security awareness initiatives, seminars, and sessions for airport employees and stakeholders Participate actively in the Airport Safety and Security Committee Work with internal and external stakeholders to support security reviews, investigations, audits, and regulatory matters Act as a Signing Authority for WAA personnel, as assigned Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive security information and government documentation Perform other related duties as assigned
Selection Criteria include:
University degree or college diploma in Criminal Justice, Policing, Security Management, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered A minimum of five years of related experience in a security role Experience developing and delivering security or regulatory programs Experience developing training and awareness initiatives in a security-related or regulated environment Experience working in an airport environment or delivering airport security or regulatory programs is considered an asset Strong knowledge of applicable aeronautical legislation and security requirements, including the Aeronautics Act, Canadian Aviation Regulations, Canadian Aviation Security Regulations, and Security Screening Measures Knowledge of airport access control, restricted area pass programs, CCTV, key control, security auditing, and electronic security systems Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation, regulations, policies, and standards and translate them into effective programs, procedures, and corrective actions Ability to exercise sound judgment, take initiative, assess priorities, and make effective decisions during emergencies and other stressful situations Strong investigative, analytical, report-writing, and problem-solving abilities, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide guidance, deliver training, and communicate sensitive or complex information Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy, with the ability to build cooperative relationships and work effectively with internal departments, regulators, law enforcement agencies, vendors, and airport stakeholders Demonstrated resourcefulness and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and confidential matters
