The posting

Wofford College’s Department of English Language and Literature seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Global and Anglophone Literatures of the long 19th century to begin Fall 2027.

EXPECTATIONS

Wofford’s faculty teach a 3-1-3 load. The “1” indicates the January Interim term, during which professors may travel with students or teach on a variety of topics using experiential teaching methods. All department members are expected to advise students on a regular basis. They are also expected to be present for regular departmental activities and to help with college-wide service work. Wofford faculty are teacher-scholars with a focus on undergraduate teaching and advising and a commitment to the liberal arts.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants will have a Ph.D. in English Literature, Comparative Literature, or a related field by the beginning of the appointment. Preferred subfields include British literature, global Indigenous literatures, transnational literatures, or literary theory. The incoming faculty member will teach a first-year seminar in the Liberal Arts, introductory courses in English, and advanced courses in British literature and their area of specialty. We are particularly interested in applicants whose pedagogy or scholarship addresses Wofford's core values as expressed in our Mission Statement.

APPLICATION

All applicants must include the following materials:

  • A letter of application that addresses how the candidate is prepared to meet the specific needs of Wofford’s English department, why they want to teach at a small liberal arts college, and how they can contribute to Wofford College’s mission and core values;
  • A curriculum vitae
  • A graduate transcript (unofficial transcripts are acceptable for the initial application); and
  • A pedagogical statement that describes how their approach to undergraduate teaching would contribute to the college’s goal of creating a richly diverse and welcoming educational environment for both majors and non-majors

Candidates who make it through the first round of interviews will be asked also to provide professional recommendations, teaching materials, and writing samples.

All application materials should be uploaded through the Wofford College Workday portal at https://wofford.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/Wofford

Applications received by November 1 will receive full consideration. The first round of interviews will be conducted via Microsoft TEAMS, and on-campus visits will take place in January/February.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
