Position Overview

The Embedded Software Engineer – Engine Controls develops embedded software for electronic control systems supporting diesel engine and battery electric/fuel cell programs. This role spans the full software lifecycle — configuration, integration, building, and bench testing — and offers broad exposure to engine software across an entire product line, along with close collaboration with platform, machine, and display software teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze software requirements and develop verification criteria

• Develop embedded software library activities

• Configure and build embedded software, including design, development, and validation of software flash files for application teams

• Create, execute, and document test plans

• Set up and configure test bench hardware and software

• Complete mandatory and feature-specific testing using manual and automated methods

• Troubleshoot software and system defects and provide customer support for system and software issues

Team & Work Environment

This position is part of an application and library team that includes an application lead, systems engineers, validation engineers, software architects, and developers. Work takes place in an office setting with desk-based development equipment and some soft lab work.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with an embedded software focus

• 5+ years of professional industry experience

• Proficiency in C programming, Model-Based Development, and embedded control software development

• Familiarity with debuggers and strong debugging and troubleshooting skills

• Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to share technical information and development progress within a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Application software development and integration experience

• Experience with communications software and protocols, including CAN/SAE J1939 and Ethernet

• Embedded operating system experience

• Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow

• Scripting experience with languages such as Python

• Experience developing engine or machine controls

• Experience working with and troubleshooting electrical systems
