The posting
The Accounting Manager oversees assigned areas of the company’s multi-entity manufacturing and distribution accounting operations to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and efficient financial processes. This is a hands-on, working-manager role: in addition to guiding a team of accounting professionals, the Accounting Manager personally prepares reconciliations, schedules, and journal entries—not just reviews them—while supporting the Controller’s month-end and year-end close, preparing financial statements, and analyzing financial data to support decision-making. The Accounting Manager will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve internal controls, redesign reconciliation processes in assigned areas, and drive automation across accounting systems and data tools. This position requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of accounting principles and financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of assigned accounting areas across multiple legal entities, which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory and cost of goods sold, intercompany, and other general ledger functions such as accruals, prepaids, lease accounting, debt schedules, flux analysis, etc.
- Support the Controller in the timely and accurate completion of month-end and year-end close for assigned areas and entities, including personally preparing—as well as reviewing—account reconciliations, schedules, journal entries, and supporting reports.
- Manage intercompany transactions, eliminations, and multi-entity consolidation support, including inventory and cost accounting for manufacturing and distribution operations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals across stateside and overseas locations: assign and direct work, set clear performance expectations, provide training and feedback, conduct performance evaluations, and manage hiring, corrective actions, and separations.
- Communicate financial results, variances, and process changes clearly to the Controller, senior management, and non-finance stakeholders, providing insights and recommendations grounded in financial analysis.
- Monitor and correct performance issues of direct reports in real time and appropriately document issues and corrective actions.
- Monitor and analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Redesign reconciliation and close-support processes in assigned areas, driving automation through Odoo, Databricks/SQL, Excel/VBA and other technology & tools to improve efficiency, accuracy, and auditability (training provided on tools as needed).
- Partner with auditors and regulatory agencies to ensure successful audits and compliance reviews.
- Perform other duties as needed in support of business objectives assigned by supervisor.
Technical Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, such as Odoo, SAP, or NetSuite in a multi-entity environment; hands-on experience with Odoo is strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and complex financial modeling.
- Expertise in preparing, analyzing, and presenting financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
- Solid understanding of internal controls, audit practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Ability to interpret and analyze large data sets to identify trends, variances, and actionable insights.
- Hands-on experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, and consolidations, including inventory and cost accounting in a manufacturing and distribution environment.
- Experience redesigning or automating reconciliation and reporting processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain accounting results and process changes to non-finance audiences and to a distributed team.
- Working knowledge of SQL / Power Query and experience driving system automation (e.g., automated reconciliations, ERP integrations, reporting pipelines) a plus, but not required; we will provide training, so we are looking for a fast learner with a genuine interest in picking up new tools and technology.
Requirements
- Ability to work in an onsite environment, depending on business needs and company policy.
- Must pass a background check and any additional pre-employment screenings required by the company.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 15 lbs. to a minimum height of 5 feet and able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- Must be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods, as well as stand, bend, kneel, squat, and twist.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
- Ability to get in and out of vehicle and walk up and down stairs during your shift.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree or CPA designation preferred but not required).
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years leading a team.
- Proven track record of managing financial operations in a fast-paced environment, preferably in a multi-entity, vertically integrated organization.
