Job Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s daily accounting operations, financial reporting processes, internal controls, and accounting staff activities. This role manages month-end and year-end close functions, supports financial compliance and operational reporting, and partners with leadership to ensure accurate and efficient financial operations within a growing electrical contracting and construction environment.

Success in this role is measured by financial accuracy, operational efficiency, compliance, team leadership, process improvement, and the ability to support organizational growth through scalable accounting practices and strong financial oversight.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

Tasks may include, but are not limited to the following:

· Manage daily accounting operations including general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and job cost accounting activities

· Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting

· Review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements for accuracy and compliance

· Support preparation of internal financial reports, operational reporting, and executive reporting packages

· Maintain and strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and financial procedures

· Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial planning activities

· Coordinate audit preparation and support external auditors, tax professionals, and regulatory reporting requirements

· Monitor compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and applicable financial regulations

· Partner with operations, payroll, HR, procurement, and project management teams to support accurate financial reporting and job cost management

· Oversee accounting system utilization, reporting improvements, and process optimization initiatives

· Assist leadership with financial analysis, reporting trends, and operational support

· Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and accounting process improvements

· Support implementation of financial controls and accounting best practices across the organization

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls

· Strong understanding of general ledger management, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation

· Knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, and project financial reporting preferred

· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

· Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills

· Advanced Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems proficiency

· Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and support business decision-making

· Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement operational efficiencies

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy

Supervisory Responsibilities

· Manage and oversee daily workflow activities of accounting staff

· Provide leadership, training, mentoring, and performance guidance to accounting team members

· Assist with workload distribution, process oversight, and departmental development

· Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management activities in partnership with leadership and Human Resources

· Promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the accounting function

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Position Type and Expected Work Time

Work Environment:

· Primarily performed in a professional office environment

· Frequent collaboration with executive leadership, operations, payroll, HR, and project management teams

· Regular use of computers, financial systems, and office equipment

· Occasional travel to branch offices or project locations may be required

Position Type:

· Full-time, Exempt

Typical Schedule/Shift Details:

· Standard business hours Monday through Friday

· Additional hours may be required during financial close periods, audits, budgeting cycles, system implementations, or special projects

Overtime Expectations:

· This position is classified as exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable federal and state laws

· The position is expected to fulfill responsibilities necessary to support financial reporting deadlines, operational objectives, and business needs

Required Education and Experience

Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

· Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred

· Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered

Certifications/Licenses:

· CPA certification preferred but not required

Experience Requirements:

· 7–10+ years of progressive accounting or financial reporting experience

· Experience managing accounting operations, month-end close processes, and financial reporting activities required

· Experience supervising or leading accounting staff preferred

· Construction, contractor, industrial, or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred

· Experience with ERP systems, job cost accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis required

Equipment or Machines Routinely Used in This Position

· Computer or laptop with ERP and accounting software systems

· Microsoft Office Suite including advanced Excel functionality and financial reporting tools

· Budgeting, forecasting, payroll, and analytics systems

· Document management and workflow tracking systems

· Multi-line telephone and virtual meeting platforms

· Standard office equipment including printers, scanners, copiers, and calculators
