The posting

Econ One advises clients on electricity and power markets, energy regulation, damages analysis, and market design issues in some of the most consequential disputes in the industry. Our teams work closely with testifying experts, attorneys, and clients to deliver clear, defensible economic analysis.

Econ One's Energy Practice provides quantitative analysis of electric and natural gas markets to utilities, attorneys, power producers, and investors involved in litigation and regulatory disputes. The practice advises on energy finance, market structure and regulatory issues, resource planning, decarbonization, hedging strategies, and portfolio risk management. Our team has served as testifying experts on market power issues, supported major electric utility merger matters, and served as principal investigators in market manipulation investigations before regulatory bodies such as FERC.

Position Overview

Econ One is seeking an Analyst/Senior Analyst to support our Energy Practice. Analysts serve as core members of case teams on challenging and high-profile matters, contributing quantitative analysis, data management, and research in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. This role is well suited for candidates who enjoy solving complex analytical problems, working with large and imperfect datasets using programming tools like Python, and producing precise, high-quality work product under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

Analysts in the Energy Practice are involved in all phases of consulting engagements and may be responsible for:

  • Conducting quantitative research and analysis related to electricity and power markets, regulatory issues, and litigation matters
  • Constructing, cleaning, and managing large and complex datasets using Python and Excel
  • Performing data analysis, statistical evaluation, and investigative work with minimal supervision
  • Preparing clear, well-organized memoranda, exhibits, and presentations summarizing analytical findings
  • Assisting in the preparation of expert reports, declarations, and testimony materials
  • Reviewing and checking work product for accuracy, consistency, and completeness
  • Supporting fact checking and backup preparation for reports and exhibits
  • Reviewing and synthesizing information from discovery materials, deposition testimony, academic literature, and public data sources
  • Working closely with senior staff and experts while managing multiple assignments under tight deadlines

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring a strong quantitative foundation, exceptional attention to detail, and a demonstrated interest in energy markets and litigation consulting.

Why Econ One

Econ One offers Analysts the opportunity to work closely with leading experts on complex, precedent-setting matters in a collegial and intellectually rigorous environment. Analysts receive meaningful responsibility early, exposure to all aspects of litigation consulting, and mentorship that supports professional growth and long-term career development.

Requirements

Required:

  • Advanced Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Optimization or Engineering
  • 2-3 years of experience in energy consulting, economic consulting, electric utility, power markets or a related analytical role
  • Experience working with large, messy, or complex datasets
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including the ability to apply statistical concepts
  • Proficiency with Python, GAMS, and Excel for data analysis and presentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong commitment to accuracy, quality, and meeting deadlines

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of energy market modeling, particularly electricity and power
  • Experience supporting litigation, regulatory proceedings, or expert analysis
  • Comfort presenting complex quantitative results to non-technical audiences
  • Willingness to work a hybrid schedule out of the Washington D.C. office

Candidates will be asked to provide a transcript.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
