As an associate data engineer, you will support the data engineering function, within the Data Intelligence Unit at SSG, to plan and build a cloud-based data framework and architecture that enables the collection, management and conversion of raw data into something more insightful in order to drive a data-driven approach to decision making.

Under the guidance of the lead Data Engineer, you will assist with the overall set-up, management and optimisation of the Spotlight Sports Group’s Data Warehousing and self-serve platform requirements. Working closely with the group’s data analysts, and key stakeholders you will help to ensure that data is both available upon request, and delivered in the most efficient manner possible. By applying best practice principles you help ensure that data accessibility is never an issue.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to scaling and enhancing the current data infrastructure.
  • Build custom automations and manage the Group’s approach to automation via Python or an equivalent.
  • Assist with the design, implementation and deployment of data pipelines/structure across the Group.
  • Help manage the back end infrastructure requirements needed for a Group Self Serve platform.
  • Assist with the management of ETLs and Data Warehouse performance.
  • Provide efficient ways for Data Analysts and other team members to access and manipulate data in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the decision making about data storage and data models.
  • Iterating on anything and everything to make incremental improvement.
  • Work to automate processes and improve efficiency of existing and new data processes.
  • Help troubleshoot and optimise data processes to solve and improve business outcomes.

Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum 1.5 years experience with SQL, data warehousing in a RDBMS (e.g. SQL Server, MySQL).
  • Good understanding of Data Modelling concepts and techniques.
  • Experience building and scheduling ETL workflows.
  • Experience with a cloud database management system like Snowflake.
  • Good experience writing high quality, maintainable SQL on large datasets.
  • Experience with cloud-based architecture (e.g. AWS, Azure).
  • Experience using Git and version control tools (e.g. Github, Sourcetree, Bitbucket)
  • Experience in working in an agile methodology.
  • Positive team player who is keen to learn new technologies and progress.
  • Willingness to work directly with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into clear actions.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with good attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently when required.

Desirable

  • Python programming skills, any experience developing python-based data engineering solutions.
  • Experience working with Dbt Cloud.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
