We are looking for an experienced Backend Developer with strong expertise in Node.js and MongoDB to design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of server-side development, API architecture, database design, and distributed systems.

You will play a key role in building reliable backend services, improving application performance, and developing robust solutions that support business and product growth. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, technical ownership, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and services using Node.js.
  • Build secure, efficient, and well-documented RESTful APIs and backend integrations.
  • Design and optimise MongoDB schemas, collections, indexes, aggregation pipelines, and database queries.
  • Develop reusable, modular, and maintainable code following established software engineering principles.
  • Implement authentication, authorisation, data validation, error handling, and appropriate security controls.
  • Design backend architectures that support high availability, scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across APIs, database operations, and application services.
  • Integrate third-party APIs, external services, and internal systems.
  • Write unit and integration tests to maintain code quality and application reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture planning.
  • Collaborate with frontend, Product, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver features efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
  • Support deployment pipelines, application monitoring, logging, and production releases.
  • Maintain technical documentation and contribute to coding standards and development best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging backend technologies and identify opportunities to improve system efficiency.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • 6+ years of professional experience in backend development, with strong hands-on expertise in Node.js.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, including asynchronous programming and modern language features.
  • Strong experience developing production-grade backend applications using Node.js frameworks such as Express.js or NestJS.
  • Proven expertise in MongoDB, including schema design, indexing, query optimisation, and aggregation pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and service-oriented architecture.
  • Knowledge of authentication, authorisation, API security, and secure coding practices.
  • Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and modern development workflows.
  • Familiarity with Docker, cloud platforms, caching, message queues, and application monitoring is an advantage.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to take ownership of complex technical deliverables.
  • A commitment to clean code, performance optimisation, system reliability, and continuous improvement.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
